Marathons have been run in the island for over 100 years, there is an annual marathon together with a number of half marathons and shorter runs organised annually. There is an annual ultramarathon which follows the coast of the island for 36 miles. The Easter running festival is also popular with its cross-country course. Athletes also compete within and for Hampshire County. Charity running events are well represented.
