Cycling At The Island Games
Cycling is an event at the Island Games, the biennial multi-sports event for island nations, territories and dependencies. Cycling at the Island Games started in 1985, with women competing from 1997. The minimum age for competitors is 17 in the year of the event. Each island can enter up to 5 male and 3 female competitors per event. 2013 Island Games
The XV Island Games (also known as the 2013 NatWest Island Games for sponsorship reasons) were held in Bermuda from 13 to 19 July 2013. Bermuda was selected to host the Games by default after Prince Edward Island withdrew from the International Island Games Association. It was the first time that the games were held outside Europe. Participating islands 22 island entities of the IIGA from Europe, South Atlantic and the Caribbean area competed in these games. Torkil Eyðfinsson Veyhe (born 9 January 1990) is a Faroese former professional road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 2017 and 2020 for , and . Andrew Roche (born 22 November 1971) is a Manx cyclist. He won the Rás Tailteann in 1997, and has competed at seven Commonwealth Games. Early life Roche grew up in Ramsey, Isle of Man. Mountain biking is a sport of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough terrain, usually using specially designed mountain bikes. 2023 Island Games
The XIX Island Games (also known as the ''2023 NatWest Island Games'' for sponsorship reasons) were to have been held in Guernsey, Channel Islands in 2021 however due to the COVID-19 pandemic the games have been postponed. This occasion will be the third time that the island has hosted the games, the first being in 1987, the second in 2003. When rescheduled, the week long event will see around 3,000 competitors from 24 islands take part in 14 sports. Host The Faroe Islands were initially chosen to host the games but pulled out of doing so in early 2015. In July 2016 the Island Games AGM unanimously decided to award the games to Guernsey. The Guernsey organising committee chair is Dame Mary Perkins, supported by Peter Vidamour as sports director and Ian Damarell as Finance Director.
