WIBC Championships
''This page is about the IIBC Championships. For the World Bowls Tour, see World Indoor Bowls Championships.'' The IIBC Championships are an annual indoor bowls world championship event for the under–25 age group, run by the governing body of the sport, the International Indoor Bowls Council (IIBC). History The under–25 age group events were established in 1998 and continue today. From 2000 until 2019 there were disciplines at senior level. In 2019, the IIBC came to an agreement with the World Bowls organisation. The agreement was to merge their two international indoor championships, the IIBC Championships and the World Cup Singles. The new event would be called the World Bowls Indoor Championships. In 2004, the mixed pairs event was added to the under 25 championships for the first time. World Indoor Bowls Championships
The World Indoor Bowls Championship is an international bowls competition held annual at Potters holiday park in Hopton on Sea. The last week of the competition is televised live on BBC where the open singles and open pairs', women's singles and mixed pairs' finals are shown. History The competition was first held in 1979 in Coatbridge, Scotland as a men's singles only event. The first event was sponsored by Embassy Cigarettes. In 1986, the men's pairs competition was added to the championship. In 1988, a rule change allowed women to compete for the first time and the women's singles competition was created. This rule change also changed expanded the men's singles and pairs competition and both become open tournaments. In 1989, the championships moved to the Guild Hall in Preston, England And Churchill Insurance took over the sponsorship. The Greechans
The Greechans are a family of bowls players from Jersey. Both Lindsey Greechan and Thomas Greechan, compete both indoor and outdoor, as does their daughter Chloe Greechan and son Taylor Greechan. Thomas, Lindsey and Helen (Thomas' late mother) are all British champions while Thomas, Lindsey and Chloe have all won the IIBC Championships on at least one occasion each. Lindsey, Thomas and Helen have also represented Jersey at the Commonwealth Games. Muhammad Hizlee Abdul Rais
Muhammad Hizlee Abdul Rais (born 23 February 1989) is a Malaysian lawn bowler. Bowls career World Championships Rais was selected by the Malaysian national team, to represent them at the sport's blue riband event, the 2023 World Bowls Championship. He participated in the men's triples and the men's fours events. The Malaysian team ranked seventh in the world at the start of the tournament, were given the target of reaching the semi finals. In the triples, his team reached the quarter final before losing to Ireland. Commonwealth Games Rais competed in both the men's singles and the men's pairs events at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Nor Iryani Azmi
Nor Iryani Hasmi (born 8 April 1986) is an international Malaysian lawn bowler. Bowls career In 2004, she made her international debut and then in 2005 became the first Malaysian woman to win the World Singles Champion of Champions title. She won the triples silver medal at the 2005 Asia Pacific Bowls Championships in Melbourne and also in 2005, she won the gold medal in the triples event at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games in Angeles City. She won a gold medal in the women's triples with Nor Hashimah Ismail and Azlina Arshad at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. Lucy Beere
Lucy Kate Beere (born 7 July 1982) is a Guernsey international lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career Outdoors She has represented Guernsey at four Commonwealth Games; competing in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast and the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham where she won a silver medal in the singles event. In 2019, she won the singles and pairs silver medal at the Atlantic Bowls Championships and during the same year she won three gold medals at the European Bowls Championships. In 2020, she was selected for the 2020 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Australia but the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jamie Chestney (born 15 November 1986) is an English male international lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career International achievements His first major international medal came in 2011 when he won the singles and triples gold medals at the Atlantic Bowls Championships. The following year he gained a bronze medal at the 2012 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in the pairs competition with Graham Shadwell. Two years later he competed for England in the men's fours at the 2014 Commonwealth Games where he won a silver medal. He finished runner-up in the 2016 International Open and the following year won the Cooperative Funeralcare International Open. Mark Dawes
Mark Dawes (born 1983) is an English international lawn and indoor bowler and a four times world indoor champion. Bowls career He won the Men's National Junior title in 2005 at the National Championships. By 2014 he had reached a career high world indoor ranking of 8. In 2018 he won the World Indoor Open Pairs title with Jamie Chestney. and then followed this by taking the World Open Singles Championship, defeating Robert Paxton in a hard fought final. Dawes had been the player of the tournament and Paxton did well to take the final to a tie break. He was subsequently named as the singles first seed at the 2019 World Indoor Bowls Championship. In 2020 his indoor club Blackpool Newton Hall BC permanently closed and Dawes was forced to find a new club. Ryan George Peter Bester (born 7 December 1984 in Hanover, Canada) is a Canadian lawn bowler. Bowls career World Outdoor Championships Bester won the gold medal in the pairs with Keith Roney at the 2004 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Ayr. After winning a bronze in the 2008 World Outdoor Bowls Championship he finished runner-up to Leif Selby in the 2012 World Outdoor Bowls Championship men's singles. He won his fifth World Championship medal when winning a silver medal in the singles at the 2016 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Christchurch. Catherine Beattie (née Catherine McMillen, born 1981) is a Northern Irish international lawn & indoor bowler. Bowls career Beattie represented a combined Ireland under her maiden name of Catherine McMillen and won the singles gold medal at the Atlantic Bowls Championships. She also represented Northern Ireland during the 2014 Commonwealth Games before she was married. McMillen lost in the bronze medal play off in the singles at the 2014 Commonwealth Games to Colleen Piketh. In 2015 she won the singles gold medal at the Atlantic Bowls Championships.
