Shooting At The Island Games
Shooting is an event at the Island Games, the biennial multi-sports event for island nations, territories and dependencies. Shooting at the Island Games has had Men, Women and Open events since the games started in 1985. Island Games
The Island Games (currently known as the NatWest International Island Games for sponsorship reasons) are biennial international multi-sports events organised by the International Island Games Association (IIGA). Competitor teams each represent different island communities (with one team from the peninsula of Gibraltar) which are IIGA members. Currently all competitor teams represent non-sovereign territories of European nations—some within European waters and some further overseas. The most recent edition was the 2019, which took place in Gibraltar with around 2,000 competitors from 22 islands or island groups participating in 14 sports. The next games will be hosted by Guernsey in 2023, postponed from 2021. 2011 Island Games
The XIV Island Games (also known as the 2011 Natwest Island Games for sponsorship reasons) was a major international multi-sport event held from 25 June to 1 July 2011, in the Isle of Wight, England. A total of 2,306 athletes from 24 islands competed in 15 sports and 190 events. The 2011 Island Games was the second Island Games to be hosted by the Isle of Wight (the fourth island to host multiple Games). Previously, the Isle of Wight hosted the 1993 Island Games. 50 M Rifle Three Positions
50 meter rifle three positions (formerly known as one of four free rifle disciplines) is an International Shooting Sport Federation event, a miniature version of 300 meter rifle three positions. It consists of the kneeling, prone, and standing positions, fired in that order, traditionally with 3×40 shots for men and 3×20 shots for women. In January 2018, the number of shots was equalised between genders with the Women's 3x20 being abolished in favour of a 3x40 match identical to the men's event. The caliber is .22 Long Rifle (5.6 mm). In both the men's and women's event, athletes must complete the course of fire within a single time block of 2 hours, 45 minutes. 50 meter rifle prone (formerly known as one of four free rifle disciplines) is an International Shooting Sport Federation event consisting of 60 shots from the prone position with a .22 Long Rifle (5.6 mm) caliber rifle. The time limit is 75 minutes for the entire match, including sighting shots, or 90 minutes if there is a need to compensate for slow scoring systems. Trap shooting, or trapshooting in North America, is one of the three major disciplines of competitive clay pigeon shooting, which is shooting shotguns at clay targets. 2023 Island Games
The XIX Island Games (also known as the ''2023 NatWest Island Games'' for sponsorship reasons) were to have been held in Guernsey, Channel Islands in 2021 however due to the COVID-19 pandemic the games have been postponed. This occasion will be the third time that the island has hosted the games, the first being in 1987, the second in 2003. When rescheduled, the week long event will see around 3,000 competitors from 24 islands take part in 14 sports. Host The Faroe Islands were initially chosen to host the games but pulled out of doing so in early 2015. In July 2016 the Island Games AGM unanimously decided to award the games to Guernsey. The Guernsey organising committee chair is Dame Mary Perkins, supported by Peter Vidamour as sports director and Ian Damarell as Finance Director. 2019 Island Games
The XVIII Island Games (officially the ''2019 NatWest Island Games'') was held in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar between 6 and 12 July 2019. This was the second time that the territory has hosted the games, the first being in 1995. The games did not include archery, cycling, football, or volleyball, which had been in all previous games since 1985, due to the lack of venues. They were replaced by tenpin bowling, judo, and squash. Gibraltar's sports facilities were greatly redeveloped throughout 2018. Cycling was subsequently included on the list of events on the Games official website, while the 2019 Inter Games Football Tournament was announced as a substitute for the lack of football.
