Soeraedi Tahsin
Soeraedi Tahsin (born July 6 in Pandeglang, died February 25, 2003 in Amsterdam), also known as Eddie Soeraedi, was an Indonesian journalist and diplomat. He was the founding editor of the publication ''Berita Indonesia'' ('Indonesian News'), the first republican newspaper in Batavia.''De Volkskrant''. ''Bintang Timur'' ( Indonesian: ''"Star of the East"''), also spelled Bintang Timoer before 1947, was a popular daily newspaper published in the Dutch East Indies and Indonesia. History The newspaper was launched in September 1926 by Parada Harahap, then editor of Bintang Hindia. Before its first issue, the Dutch language newspaper Algemeen handelsblad voor Nederlandsch-Indië was already recommending it to "the natives" due to Harahap's reputation for hard work and dedication to good journalism. The editorial lineup in the first year, aside from Harahap, were G. Soetadipradja, Kadar, Hatnid and Abdullah Badjrei, with assistant editing by Saadah Alim. The Indonesia Party ( id, Partai Indonesia), better known as Partindo, was a nationalist political party in Indonesia that existed before independence and was revived in 1957 as a leftist party. Pre-independence party In 1927, future Indonesian president Sukarno established the pro-independence Indonesian National Party (PNI). Two years later, the concerned Dutch East Indies administration arrested and jailed Sukarno, and the PNI was banned. At the end of April 1931, Sartono, a former leading figure in the PNI, established the Indonesia Party (Partindo). It attracted the majority of the PNI membership, and campaigned for Indonesian independence from the Dutch, but was less radical than the PNI.
