The family Asteraceae, alternatively Compositae, consists of over 32,000 known species of flowering plants in over 1,900 genera within the order Asterales. Commonly referred to as the aster, daisy, composite, or sunflower family, Compositae were first described in the year 1740. ''Nabalus'' is a genus of Asian and North American flowering plants in the tribe Cichorieae within the family Asteraceae. ''Nabalus'' is now considered the correct name for a group of plants in North America that were formerly considered to be members of ''Prenanthes'', and were included in that genus in the Flora of North America treatment. Common names for the genus include "rattlesnake root" and "white lettuce." Mesic Habitat
In ecology, a mesic habitat is a type of habitat with a moderate or well-balanced supply of moisture, e.g., a mesic forest, a temperate hardwood forest, or dry-mesic prairie.
