Pétanque World Championships
The Pétanque World Championships are international pétanque competitions organized by the , FIPJP). Overview The FIPJP Men's Triples World Championships were first held in 1959 in Spa, Belgium. Additional championship categories were subsequently added for young people (''jeunes''), women, and for precision shooting (''tir de precision''). In 2015, a Singles World Championship was added. Currently, Men's Triples Championships and the Precision Shooting World Championships are held every other year in even-numbered years. Women's and Youth Championships, along with Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles, are held in odd-numbered years. Pétanque
Pétanque (, ; ; ) is a sport that falls into the category of boules sports (along with Raffa (boules), raffa, bocce, boule lyonnaise, Bowls, lawn bowls, and Crown green bowls, crown green bowling). In these sports, players or teams play their boules/balls towards a target ball. In pétanque the objective is to score points by having boules closer to the target than the opponent after all boules have been thrown. This is achieved by throwing or rolling boules closer to the small target ball, officially called a ''jack'' (), or by hitting the opponents' boules away from the target, while standing inside a circle with both feet on the ground. The game is normally and best played on hard dirt or gravel. It can be played in public areas in parks or in dedicated facilities called ''boulodromes''. Lons-le-Saunier () is a commune and capital of the Jura Department, eastern France. Geography The town is in the heart of the Revermont region, at the foot of the first plateau of the Jura massif. The Jura escarpment extends to the east and south, while to the west lies the plain of Bresse and to the north extensive vineyards. The river Vallière runs through the town, rising in a typical Jura blind valley not far away, at Revigny.
