The Nepal national football team ( ne, नेपाल राष्ट्रिय फुटबल टिम) represents Nepal in International men's football, and is governed by the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA). A member of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the Nepali football team plays their home games at Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu. History Origins (1921–1993) Football in Nepal had been a national sport as early as 1921 during the Rana dynasty. The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) (Nepali language, Nepali: अखिल नेपाल फुटबल संघ (एन्फा)) is the governing body of football in Nepal. It is responsible for the Nepal national football team, national team as well as club competitions. The organisation was founded in 1951 as the All Nepal Football Association and became affiliated with FIFA in 1972. The current President of ANFA is Pankaj Bikram Nembang. AFC Solidarity Cup
The AFC Solidarity Cup is an international Association football, football competition for Asian Football Confederation (AFC) member countries who are out of the continental qualifiers at early stage. The tournament was created following the termination of the AFC Challenge Cup. Format The competition currently features a maximum 10 national teams, where each team is guaranteed a minimum of 4 matches. The first edition took place in November 2016 and the second edition, scheduled for November and December 2020, was cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic in Asia. AFC Champions League
The AFC Champions League (abbreviated as ACL) is an annual continental club football competition organised by the Asian Football Confederation, and contested by Asia's top-division football clubs. It is the most prestigious club competition in Asian football, played by the national league champions (and, for some nations, one or more runners-up) of their national associations. The Aga Khan Gold Cup was a tournament played in Dhaka, Bangladesh which invited the top club sides from leading football playing nations of Asia to compete. Many renowned football pundits regard this competition as a predecessor of AFC Champions League (held for the first time in 1967), since it was the first organized international competition that involved club teams around Asia. The Tribhuvan Challenge Shield is Nepal's second oldest association football tournament, founded in 1948 by King Tribhuvan. History In 1947 ( 2004 BS), Tribhuvan Challenge Shield was introduced by late H. M. King Tribhuvan for the development of this football game which was organized at Tudikhel in front of Haribhavan. In that tournament Naresh XI led by Nar Shumsher secured first position and N. R. T. team secured second position. In the same year Shree 3 Padma Shumsher introduced the Ram Janaki cup which was continuously won thrice by Police Force team. Rana dynasty ( ne, राणा वंश, IAST=Rāṇā vaṃśa , ) is a Chhetri dynasty that imposed totalitarianism in the Kingdom of Nepal from 1846 until 1951, reducing the Shah monarch to a figurehead and making Prime Minister and other government positions held by the Ranas hereditary. Football is one of the major and the most popular sports of Nepal. It is governed by the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA). The present acting president of ANFA is Karma Kshiring Sherpa.
