Miss Universe Malaysia 2019, the 53rd edition of the Miss Universe Malaysia, was held on 7 March 2019 at the Majestic Araneta Auditorium, Kuala Lumpur. Shweta Sekhon of Kuala Lumpur was crowned by the outgoing titleholder, Jane Teoh of Penang at the end of the event. She then represented Malaysia at the Miss Universe 2019 pageant in Atlanta, United States. Shweta Sekhon
Shweta Sekhon (born Shwetajeet Kaur Sekhon, 6 November 1997), is a Malaysian Indian model and beauty pageant titleholder. She was crowned as Miss World Malaysia 2016 and Miss Universe Malaysia 2019. She represented Malaysia at the Miss Universe 2019 pageant in Atlanta, United States. Background Shweta was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia of a local Malaysian Indian of ethnic Punjabi descent. She was named after Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan's eldest daughter, Shweta Nanda. She was raised by a single mum, a former Malaysia Airlines stewardess, together with her older sister Sabrina. Miss Malaysia World 2016, the 50th edition of Miss Malaysia World was held at the Corus Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on August 28, 2016. Brynn Zalina Lovett of Sabah crowned her successor Tatiana Kumar from Kuala Lumpur at the end of the contest. Twenty contestants from all across Malaysia competed for the crown. Miss Malaysia World 2014, the 48th edition of Miss World Malaysia was held at the Corus Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on August 30, 2014. Melinder Bhullar of Kuala Lumpur crowned her successor, Dewi Liana Seriestha from Sarawak at the end of the event. Twenty-one contestants from different states competed for the crown. Dewi then represented Malaysia at the Miss World 2014 held in London, United Kingdom where she received the Miss World Talent 2014 award and made it to the Top 25 quarter-finalist. Miss World Malaysia is a national beauty pageant and an organization based in Malaysia. The winner will represents the country at Miss World. On occasion, when the winner does not qualify (due to age or any other reason), a runner-up is sent. The reigning Miss World Malaysia is Wenanita Angang of Sabah.
