Lion Group
Lion Group Malaysia is headed by chairman and chief executive officer William Cheng. Cheng's grandfather founded Lion as a small trading company in Singapore after leaving China in the 1920s. It became Malaysia's biggest steel manufacturer after winning a license from the government in 1978. One of the group's biggest investments is Suzuki Assemblers Malaysia Sdn Bhd which manufactures Suzuki motorcycles for the Malaysian market. Between 1997 and 1999 they were also involved in a joint venture with the Nanjing Group, producing the SEAT Ibiza-based Nanjing Yuejin Soyat for the Chinese market. Lion Group's key assets in Malaysia are two steel mills with a capacity of 3 million tons a year, a forest concession in Sabah that is four times the size of Singapore, and the Silverstone tyre making business. William Cheng
Tan Sri William Cheng Heng Jem or William H.J. Cheng (; born 1943) is the chairman of Lion Group Malaysia, a conglomerate having diversified businesses encompassing retail, property development, mining, steel, agriculture and computer. He is known for introducing the Parkson department store chain in 1987. Tan Sri Cheng previously served as the President of both The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (“ACCCIM”) and The Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor ("KLSCCCI”) and is now Life Honorary PresidentoACCCIMand KLSCCCI. SEAT Ibiza
The SEAT Ibiza is a supermini car that has been manufactured by Spanish car manufacturer SEAT since 1984. It is SEAT's best-selling car. The Ibiza is named after the Spanish island of Ibiza and was the second SEAT model to be named after a Spanish location, after the SEAT Málaga. It was introduced at the 1984 Paris Motor Show as the first car developed by SEAT as an independent company, although it was designed by SEAT in collaboration with well-known firms including Italdesign, Karmann, and Porsche. Nanjing Yuejin Soyat
The Soyat is a subcompact hatchback built by the Wuxi Soyat (南汽新雅途) branch of Nanjing Automobile (Group) Corporation. The car is based on the original 1984 ('System Porsche') version of the SEAT Ibiza Mark I (1984-1993). History After the first generation Ibiza was replaced, the technology and production line were bought by a joint venture between Nanjing Yuejin and the Malaysian Lion Group in 1997. Parkson Holdings Berhad (doing business as Parkson; ; ) is an Asian-based department store operator with an extensive network of 131 stores as of 2017, spanning approximately 2.1 million m2 of retail space across cities in Malaysia, China, Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar.
