Johanna Pieneman
Johanna Hendrika Pieneman (1889-1986) was a Dutch artist. Biography Pieneman was born on 17 February 1889 in Amsterdam. Her brother, Nicolaas Pieneman (1880-1938), was also a painter. She studied at the (''English:Day drawing school for girls'') and the ''Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten'' (State Academy of Fine Arts) in Amsterdam. Her teachers included , Antoon Derkinderen, Wilhelmina Cornelia Kerlen, and Nicolaas van der Waay. Nicolaas Pieneman (1880-1938)
Nicolaas Pieneman (1 December 1880 – 1 December 1938) was a Dutch people, Dutch artist. Life Pieneman was born in Amsterdam, the son of Nicolaas Pieneman (1853-1945) and his wife Herremijntje (born de Hondt; 1849-1939). Both his father and his grandfather, Dirk Pieneman, were house painters. Both Nicolaas and his younger sister Johanna Pieneman (1889-1986) chose art as a profession. Pieneman, like his sister Johanna, trained at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (State Academy of Fine Arts) in Amsterdam as a pupil of Carel Dake and Nicolaas van der Waay. Rijksakademie Van Beeldende Kunsten
The Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (State Academy of Fine Arts) was founded in 1870 in Amsterdam. It is a classical academy, a place where philosophers, academics and artists meet to test and exchange ideas and knowledge. The school supports visual artists with a two-year curriculum. The Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten was the home of Amsterdam Impressionism, part of the international impressionist movement, and is known as the School of Allebé by art historians; August Allebé became the school's director in 1880. In French language the school was called "l'Académie Royale des Beaux Arts d'Amsterdam". Antonius Johannes (Antoon) Derkinderen ('s-Hertogenbosch, 20 December 1859 – Amsterdam, 2 November 1925) was a Dutch painter, Glass artist, Draftsman and designer of book covers. Life Early Years Antoon Derkinderen was born in 's-Hertogenbosch in 1859 to Antonius Henricus Derkinderen, gold- and silversmith, and Hendrica de Rooij. At the time the town was deeply Catholic and conservative. From 1874 to 1878 Derkinderen went to the daytime school for primary school teachers in 's-Hertogenbosch. The simple reason why Derkinderen went to this school, was that the education was solid and free of charge. He also became qualified to teach drawing and mathematics. Derkinderen would lead the choir of this school with very much enthusiasm. In May 1878 Derkinderen qualified as an assistant teacher for primary education. Nicolaas van der Waay (1855–1936) was a Dutch decorative artist, watercolorist and lithographer. He worked in many genres, including stamp, coin and banknote designs. He is perhaps best known for the allegorical illustrations he created for the Golden Coach and a series of paintings depicting the lives of girls from the Amsterdam Orphanage. Onze Kunst van Heden (Contemporary Artists/Our Art of Today) was an exhibition held in the winter of 1939 through 1940 at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Due to the threat of invasion in the years leading up to World War II, the Netherlands' government stored many items from the Rijksmuseum's permanent collection. The resulting empty gallery space was utilized by contemporary Dutch artists to exhibit and sell their art. It was organized by the director of the Rijksmuseum .
