Onze Kunst Van Heden
Onze Kunst van Heden (Contemporary Artists/Our Art of Today) was an exhibition held in the winter of 1939 through 1940 at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Due to the threat of invasion in the years leading up to World War II, the Netherlands' government stored many items from the Rijksmuseum's permanent collection. The resulting empty gallery space was utilized by contemporary Dutch artists to exhibit and sell their art. It was organized by the director of the Rijksmuseum . The show was open to all artists, with each artist allowed to enter four pieces. 902 artists exhibited 3,200 works of art in 74 rooms and cabinets of the Rijksmuseum. Dirk Bus
Dirk Bus (5 December 1907 - 10 June 1978 in The Hague) was a Dutch sculptor. Bus was educated in sculpture at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague and Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. He was a student of Bon Ingen-Housz and Jan Bronner. He then taught sculpture at the Art Academy and the Hague Academy. One of his most famous pupils was the sculptor Kees Verkade. Bus was chairman of the Pulchri Studio for years and member of the Dutch Society of Sculptors in Amsterdam. He co-founded the artistic group Hague Verve with Theo Bitter. Many of his public works are found in The Hague, with some notable sculptures on Lijnbaan Bridge and around the old town hall. Nicolas Eekman
Nicolas Mathieu Eekman (9 August 1889 – 13 November 1973), known as Nico Eekman, Nic Eekman and Ekma, was a Flemish figurative painter. Debora Geertruida Duyvis (1886-1960) was a Dutch illustrator and engraver. Biography Duyvis was born on 17 February 1886 in Amsterdam. She studied at the ''Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten'' (State Academy of Fine Arts). Her instructors included Johannes Josephus Aarts and Antoon Derkinderen. Rachel Margaretha van Dantzig (1878–1949) was a Dutch sculptor. Biography Van Dantzig was born on 12 November 1878 in Rotterdam. She studied at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten (Rotterdam) and the Académie Colarossi (Paris). She was a student of Charles van der Stappen. She exhibited her work from 1903 through 1939. Lucie van Dam van Isselt or Lucie Dam van Isselt later Lucie Ekker (15 June 1871 – 7 June 1949) was a Dutch artist known for her floral paintings. Life Van Dam van Isselt was born in Bergen op Zoom, North Brabant, Netherlands in 1871. Her formal painting education began at the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague. She learnt about etchings and lithography from at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Lyon. She traveled through Europe and painted in various places in Belgium, France and Italy. Max Van Dam
Max van Dam (March 19, 1910 – September 20, 1943) was a Dutch artist born in Winterswijk. He was murdered in the Sobibor extermination camp. Early life ( -1931) Max van Dam was the son of Aron van Dam and Johanna van Dam née Leviticus. Both his parents were Jewish. He grew up in a socialist environment. His father was a certified meat inspector who became the director of the cooperative store ''De Dageraad'', literal translation ''The Dawn'', in Winterswijk, where he had a seat on the town council for the Dutch Social Democratic Workers' Party (SDAP). Van Dam showed an early interest in art, drawing portraits and painting landscapes, and although his father did not encourage an artistic career he did provide Van Dam with early painting commissions.
