Gulu United FC
Gulu United Football Club is a Ugandan football club located in Gulu, Gulu District in Northern Uganda. The club was playing in the Ugandan Big League in the 2011–12 season but there is currently no FUFA records that confirm that the club is still operating at a senior level. However the club is active at a youth level. History Gulu United Football Club, (also known as Gulu Black Rangers Football Club) made their first appearance in the Ugandan Super League in the 1999 season. The club were relegated at the end of the season having finished in 19th position. In the 2005 season Gulu again participated in the Super League which was run on a group and knock-out basis with the lower ranked teams dropping into a relegation pool. The club finished in last position in Group B and were subsequently moved into the relegation pool where they failed to complete their fixtures away to Kinyara, Kakira and Lugazi. Gulu
Gulu is a city in the Northern Region of Uganda. It is the commercial and administrative centre of Gulu District. The coordinates of the city of Gulu are 2°46'54.0"N 32°17'57.0"E. The distance from Gulu to Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city, is approximately by road. Gulu is served by Gulu Airport. History During the British Bagool rule in the 18th and 19th centuries, northern Uganda was less developed compared to the rest of the country. The people were conscripted into the army and the police. Many were sent to fight in the first and second World Wars. In the 1960s, many Sudanese, Rwandese, and Congolese refugees settled in the city. The Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) under the leadership of Joseph Kony sprang up in the 1990s after Auma/Lakwena went to Kenya. The LRA became increasingly violent in Gulu and surrounding communities. The Uganda Cup is Uganda's main national cup competition in football. This annual competition is open for member clubs of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations. The Uganda Cup is the second most prestigious competition in Uganda football. It is played on a knock out basis. 2009–10 Uganda Big League
The 2009–10 Ugandan Big League is the 1st season of the official second tier Ugandan football championship. Overview The 2009–10 Uganda Big League was contested by 16 teams divided into two groups. The Elgon Group was won by Gulu United FC and the Rwenzori Group was won by Maroons FC. The third promotion place went to UTODA FC who won the promotion play-off. Clubs within the Big League enter the Ugandan Cup and Gulu United FC progressed as far as the Quarter Finals where they were defeated 3-0 away to Masaka LC . Maroons Football Club also known as Prisons Football Club, is a Ugandan football club from Kampala owned by Uganda Prisons Service, currently playing in the FUFA Big League. Playing as Prisons FC, the club won the first two editions of the Ugandan Premier League History Prisons FC won the first two Ugandan Super League titles in 1968 and 1969, and were the first team to represent Uganda in international competition in the 1970 African Cup of Champions Clubs (a Ugandan team, Bitumastic, qualified in 1967 but withdrew before playing a match.) The 2005 Ugandan Super League was the 38th season of the official Ugandan football championship, the top-level football league of Uganda. Overview The 2005 Uganda Super League used a different format with 15 teams divided into 3 groups with 8 qualifying teams then progressing to the knock-out phase. The championship playoff was won by Police FC who defeated SC Villa 3-1 on penalties following a 0-0 draw in the final at Namboole Stadium.
