Canidrome (Macau)
The Macau (Yat Yuen) Canidrome Club (), located in Nossa Senhora de Fátima, Macau, China, was a greyhound racing stadium in Asia. Around 120 dogs took part in 16 races five days per week. It had two grandstands, several private boxes and a VIP lounge. It shared the venue with Lin Fong Sports Centre, a sport complex. History The Canidrome opened in 1932 but was closed in 1938 due to the Second Sino-Japanese War. It reopened in 1963. On 21 July 2016, the Gaming and Inspection Bureau (DICJ) of Macau, Paulo Martins Chan, met with representatives of the Canidrome. It was later announced that the government presented the greyhound racing facility with an ultimatum: close down or move to another site in two years. The Canidrome closed on 21 July 2018. Nossa Senhora De Fátima, Macau
Nossa Senhora de Fátima is the northernmost and largest civil parish in the Macau Peninsula of Macau. It has an area of and a population of 126,000, which constitutes about 40.3% of the peninsula's land mass and one-third of the population. This parish was one of five in the former Municipality of Macau, one of Macau's two municipalities that were abolished on 31 December 2001 by Law No. 17/2001, following the 1999 transfer of sovereignty over Macau from Portugal to China. While their administrative functions have since been removed, these parishes are still retained nominally. It is northeast of the parishes of Santo António and São Lázaro. Greyhound Racing
Greyhound racing is an organized, competitive sport in which greyhounds are raced around a track. There are two forms of greyhound racing, track racing (normally around an oval track) and coursing; the latter is now banned in most countries. Lin Fong Sports Centre
Lin Fong Sports Centre is a sports complex co-existing with Macau Canidrome. The sports centre incorporated a sports field, swimming pools, and a gymnasium. The natural grass turf is used mostly for football matches. On 12 August 2017, Macau national football team played a friendly against Hong Kong Premier League club Kitchee S.C. at Lin Fong Sports Centre. Kitchee won the match 6–0. On 17 July 2018, the Sports Bureau (ID) had announced that the Lin Fong Sports Center will extend its opening hours following the impending closure of the Macau Canidrome. On 13 October 2018, the 74th Hong Kong Macau Interport Competition was held at Lin Fong Stadium. Hong Kong won the competition 1–6 after Macau defender Ng Wa Seng was sent off after just 7 minutes. The Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945) or War of Resistance (Chinese term) was a military conflict that was primarily waged between the Republic of China and the Empire of Japan. Macau Peninsula
The Macau Peninsula is the most populous and historical part of Macau. It has an area of () and is geographically connected to Guangdong Province at the northeast through an isthmus wide. The peninsula, together with downtown Zhuhai, sits on an island separated from the continent by distributaries of the Pearl River.
