2012 LPGA Tour
The 2012 LPGA Tour was a series of weekly golf tournaments for elite female golfers from around the world that began in Australia on February 9 and ended November 18 in Florida. The tournaments are sanctioned by the United States-based Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). Season overview There were 27 official tournaments on the 2012 LPGA Tour, four more than in 2011. Fifteen tournaments were held in the United States. Eleven other countries hosted the remaining twelve tournaments. Stacy Lewis won the most tournaments, four, and won the Player of the Year award. Inbee Park won two tournaments and both the money title with earnings of $2,266,638 and the Vare Trophy for lowest scoring average. So Yeon Ryu won Rookie of the Year honors, winning one tournament, finishing sixth on the money list and second in scoring average. Stacy Lewis
Stacy Lewis (born February 16, 1985) is an American professional golfer on the U.S.-based LPGA Tour. She has won two major championships: the Kraft Nabisco Championship in 2011 and the Women's British Open in 2013. She was ranked number one in the Women's World Golf Rankings for four weeks in 2013, and reclaimed the position in June 2014 with a victory at the ShopRite LPGA Classic for another 21 weeks. Early life Lewis was born on February 16, 1985 in Toledo, Ohio. She grew up in Texas at The Woodlands outside of Houston, and graduated from The Woodlands High School in 2003. Suffering from scoliosis, which was diagnosed at age 11 and treated by a spinal fusion when she was in high school, she missed her first collegiate golf season recovering from the surgery. Royal Melbourne Golf Club is a 36-hole golf club in Australia, located in Black Rock, Victoria, a suburb southeast of Melbourne. Its West and East courses are respectively ranked number 1 and 6 in Australia. The West course is ranked in the top-five courses in the world. 2012 Women's British Open
The 2012 Ricoh Women's British Open was held 13–16 September at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Merseyside, England. It was the 36th Women's British Open, and the 12th as a major championship on the LPGA Tour. It was scheduled later in the year due to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Jiyai Shin won her second Women's British Open, nine strokes ahead of runner-up Inbee Park. Weather was a factor, as the second round on Friday was halted before 8:30 a.m. due to high winds. The scores were thrown out and the round was restarted on Saturday, with the final two rounds played on Sunday. The Pure Silk Championship was a women's professional golf tournament on the LPGA Tour, played in Williamsburg, Virginia. The 72-hole tournament was held on the par-71 River Course at Kingsmill Resort, set at in 2013. Previously known as the "Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill," the tournament was founded in 2003 and played for seven seasons. Absent in 2010 and 2011, it returned for the 2012 season in early September, and switched to early May in 2013. The LPGA event succeeded the Michelob Championship at Kingsmill, an annual PGA Tour event held for 22 years, from 1981 through 2002. The 72-hole, full-field event was first played in June 2012 at the Grey Silo Golf Course in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
