The 1983–84 Iraq FA Cup was the eighth edition of the Iraq FA Cup as a clubs-only competition. The tournament was won by Al-Sinaa for the first time, beating Al-Shabab 5–4 on penalties in the final after a 0–0 draw on 14 June 1984. Al-Shabab reached the final by beating Al-Tijara, who had earlier knocked out Al-Zawraa 2–1 and Al-Shorta on penalties after a 0–0 draw. Iraq FA Cup
The Iraq FA Cup, known as the Iraq Cup ( ar, كأس العراق) in Arabic, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic Iraqi football. First held in the 1948–49 season for clubs and institutions before returning in 1975–76 for clubs only, it is organised by the Iraq Football Association. The tournament begins with several rounds played between lower division clubs, twelve of which advance to the Round of 32, where the Iraqi Premier League clubs are entered. This is followed by the Round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final which is played as a single leg in Baghdad. The winners of the competition are awarded a place in the next season's AFC Cup group stage as well as qualifying for the Iraqi Super Cup where they play against the league champions at the start of the following season (or the league runners-up, if the cup winners have won the double). Al-Sinaa Sport club ( ar, نادي الصناعة الرياضي, lit=''Industry SC'') is a football club based in Thawra District, East Districts of the Tigris River, Baghdad, that plays in Iraqi Premier League. Al-Shabab Sports Club (''Youth SC'', ar, نادي الشباب الرياضي) is an Iraqi football club that is based in Baghdad. It currently plays in the Iraq Division Two. Its home colours are a shirt with blue and black Inter Milan style stripes with black shorts and blue socks and its away colors are a white shirt with blue shoulders and blue on the sides with blue shorts and white socks. In 1980, they won the Stafford Challenge Cup hosted in Bangalore, India, by beating Indian Telephone Industries 4–2 in the final. They won the Stafford Cup again in 1986 and took it back to Iraq, but the cup got destroyed in the Iran–Iraq War. The tournament was won by Al-Jaish for the second time, beating Al-Shabab 2–1 in the final, with Hassan Farhan and Sadiq Ghanim scoring for Al-Jaish and Falah Hassan scoring for Al-Shabab. The quarter-finals saw Al-Tayaran (now known as Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya) beat Al-Zawraa 2–1 in a Baghdad Derby on 5 January 1983 with Khalid Fadhel and Hanoon Mashkoor scoring for Al-Tayaran and Thamir Yousef scoring for Al-Zawraa, before Al-Tayaran were knocked out by Al-Shabab in the semi-final 4–2 on penalties. The 1984–85 Iraq FA Cup was the ninth edition of the Iraq FA Cup as a clubs-only competition. The tournament was cancelled at the semi-final stage with Al-Rasheed, Al-Sinaa, Al-Shabab and Al-Tayaran being the four teams still remaining in the competition. Al-Tayaran had eliminated Al-Talaba in a Baghdad Derby in the quarter-finals, winning 4–3 on penalties after a 0–0 draw. The competition was cancelled along with the 1984–85 Iraqi National League due to the national team's World Cup qualifying campaign. Al-Tijara Sport Club (''Trade SC'', ar, نادي التجارة الرياضي ) is an Iraqi football club based in Baghdad, that plays in Iraq Division Three. History In Premier League Al-Tijara was founded in 1974 as Al-Iktisad as an amalgamation of Ministry of Trade teams, the most prominent of which were the Orosdi-Back team and the Al-Asha team. Al-Iktisad gained promotion to the Iraqi Premier League in 1975. Al-Zawraa Sports Club ( ar, نادي الزوراء الرياضي) is an Iraqi sports club based in Utayfia, Karkh District (near Tigris River), Baghdad. Their football team compete in the Iraqi Premier League, the top-flight of Iraqi football. Al-Zawraa are the most decorated club in Iraq having won 14 Premier League titles, 16 Iraq FA Cups and 5 Iraqi Super Cups, all national records. Al-Zawraa also won the Iraqi Elite Cup a joint-record 3 times.
