The 1984–85 Iraq FA Cup was the ninth edition of the Iraq FA Cup as a clubs-only competition. The tournament was cancelled at the semi-final stage with Al-Rasheed, Al-Sinaa, Al-Shabab and Al-Tayaran being the four teams still remaining in the competition. Al-Tayaran had eliminated Al-Talaba in a Baghdad Derby in the quarter-finals, winning 4–3 on penalties after a 0–0 draw. The competition was cancelled along with the 1984–85 Iraqi National League due to the national team's World Cup qualifying campaign. Iraq FA Cup
The Iraq FA Cup, known as the Iraq Cup ( ar, كأس العراق) in Arabic, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic Iraqi football. First held in the 1948–49 season for clubs and institutions before returning in 1975–76 for clubs only, it is organised by the Iraq Football Association. The tournament begins with several rounds played between lower division clubs, twelve of which advance to the Round of 32, where the Iraqi Premier League clubs are entered. This is followed by the Round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final which is played as a single leg in Baghdad. The winners of the competition are awarded a place in the next season's AFC Cup group stage as well as qualifying for the Iraqi Super Cup where they play against the league champions at the start of the following season (or the league runners-up, if the cup winners have won the double). The tournament was won by Al-Sinaa for the first time, beating Al-Shabab 5–4 on penalties in the final after a 0–0 draw on 14 June 1984. Al-Shabab reached the final by beating Al-Tijara, who had earlier knocked out Al-Zawraa 2–1 and Al-Shorta on penalties after a 0–0 draw. Al-Rasheed Sports Club ( ar, نادي الرشيد الرياضي) was an Iraqi sports club based in Karkh, Baghdad. Its professional football team played in the Iraqi Premier League, the top tier of the Iraqi football, from 1984 until 1990. The club's home stadium was Al-Karkh Stadium (then known as Al-Rasheed Stadium). Founded in 1983 by Uday Hussein, the son of Saddam Hussein, Al-Rasheed were promoted to the top tier in their first season of existence and went on to win 3 league titles in the row, 2 FA Cups, 3 Arab Champions Cup titles, and reach the final of the 1988–89 Asian Club Championship. Al-Shabab Sports Club (''Youth SC'', ar, نادي الشباب الرياضي) is an Iraqi football club that is based in Baghdad. It currently plays in the Iraq Division Two. Its home colours are a shirt with blue and black Inter Milan style stripes with black shorts and blue socks and its away colors are a white shirt with blue shoulders and blue on the sides with blue shorts and white socks. In 1980, they won the Stafford Challenge Cup hosted in Bangalore, India, by beating Indian Telephone Industries 4–2 in the final. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya ( ar, نادي القوة الجوية الرياضي, lit=Air Force Club) is an Iraqi sports club based in Rusafa District, Baghdad that competes in the Iraqi Premier League, the top-flight of Iraqi football. Founded in 1931, it is the oldest existing club in Iraq. Its football team is one of the most successful in Iraq having won seven Iraqi Premier League titles, most recently in the 2020–21 season, which it won alongside its fifth Iraq FA Cup title. Baghdad Derby
The Baghdad derbies are a series of derby matches between four Baghdad-based football clubs: Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Al-Shorta, Al-Talaba and Al-Zawraa, collectively known as the 'Popular Teams'. They are the four most successful teams in the history of Iraqi football, and league games between the clubs are played at the neutral venue of Al-Shaab Stadium to accommodate more spectators. The match between Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya and Al-Zawraa is often referred to as the Iraqi El Clásico. 1984–85 Iraqi National League
The 1984–85 Iraqi National Clubs First Division was the 11th season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. For the first time in Iraqi football history, three points were awarded for a win instead of two. The tournament reached round 21 with several postponed games from previous rounds, and on 23 February 1985, the Iraq Football Association (IFA) officially cancelled the league. This was because the league schedule was conflicting with the national team's World Cup qualifying campaign, which was considered to be the priority.
