Iraq FA Cup
The Iraq FA Cup, known as the Iraq Cup ( ar, كأس العراق) in Arabic, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic Iraqi football. First held in the 1948–49 season for clubs and institutions before returning in 1975–76 for clubs only, it is organised by the Iraq Football Association. The tournament begins with several rounds played between lower division clubs, twelve of which advance to the Round of 32, where the Iraqi Premier League clubs are entered. This is followed by the Round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final which is played as a single leg in Baghdad. The winners of the competition are awarded a place in the next season's AFC Cup group stage as well as qualifying for the Iraqi Super Cup where they play against the league champions at the start of the following season (or the league runners-up, if the cup winners have won the double). Iraq Football Association
The Iraq Football Association (IFA) ( ar, الاتحاد العراقي لكرة القدم) is the governing body of football in Iraq, controlling the Iraqi national team and the Iraqi Premier League. The Iraqi Football Association was founded in 1948 and has been a member of FIFA since 1950, the Asian Football Confederation since 1970, and the Sub-confederation regional body West Asian Football Federation since 2001. Iraq is also part of the Union of Arab Football Associations and has been a member since 1974. 1948–49 Iraq FA Cup
The 1948–49 Iraq Football Association Cup was the first edition of what is now the Iraq FA Cup. Clubs and institute-representative teams participated in the tournament, which was won by Sharikat Naft Al-Basra, beating Al-Kuliya Al-Askariya Al-Malakiya 2–1 in Iraq's first ever national cup final, played at Al-Kashafa Stadium in Baghdad on 7 April 1949. The winning team's players and staff paraded the trophy around Basra upon returning from Baghdad three days after winning the tournament. The 1986–87 Iraq FA Cup was the tenth edition of the Iraq FA Cup as a clubs-only competition. The tournament was won by Al-Rasheed for the first time, beating Al-Jaish 4–3 on penalties in the final after a 1–1 draw. Al-Rasheed also won the 1986–87 Iraqi National League to complete the double. 1984–85 Iraqi National League
The 1984–85 Iraqi National Clubs First Division was the 11th season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. For the first time in Iraqi football history, three points were awarded for a win instead of two. The tournament reached round 21 with several postponed games from previous rounds, and on 23 February 1985, the Iraq Football Association (IFA) officially cancelled the league. This was because the league schedule was conflicting with the national team's World Cup qualifying campaign, which was considered to be the priority. 1986 FIFA World Cup Qualification (AFC)
Listed below are the dates and results for the 1986 FIFA World Cup qualification rounds for the Asian zone ( AFC). For an overview of the qualification rounds, see the article ''1986 FIFA World Cup qualification''. A total of 28 AFC teams entered the competition. However, Chinese Taipei were assigned to the Oceanian zone instead. The Asian zone was allocated 2 places (out of 24) in the final tournament. Asia's automatic qualifying berths were taken by Iraq and Korea Republic. Tournament Structure The 27 teams were divided into 2 zones, based on geographical considerations. Zone A had 13 teams (teams from West Asia) and Zone B had 14 teams (teams from East Asia). The Iraq national football team ( ar, منتخب العراق لكرة القدم) represents Iraq in international Association football, football and is controlled by the Iraq Football Association (IFA), the governing body for football in Iraq. The 1984–85 Iraq FA Cup was the ninth edition of the Iraq FA Cup as a clubs-only competition. The tournament was cancelled at the semi-final stage with Al-Rasheed, Al-Sinaa, Al-Shabab and Al-Tayaran being the four teams still remaining in the competition. Al-Tayaran had eliminated Al-Talaba in a Baghdad Derby in the quarter-finals, winning 4–3 on penalties after a 0–0 draw. The competition was cancelled along with the 1984–85 Iraqi National League due to the national team's World Cup qualifying campaign. Al-Talaba Sports Club ( ar, نادي الطلبة الرياضي, lit=''Students Sports Club'') is an Iraqi sports club based in Al-Rusafa, Baghdad. Its football team competes in the Iraqi Premier League, the top flight of Iraqi football. Founded in 1977, it was merged with another club called Al-Jamiea ahead of the 1978–79 season. Their home stadium is Al-Talaba Stadium. Al-Talaba are one of Iraq's most successful teams having won five league titles, with the most recent being in the 2001–02 season. Al-Rasheed Sports Club ( ar, نادي الرشيد الرياضي) was an Iraqi sports club based in Karkh, Baghdad. Its professional football team played in the Iraqi Premier League, the top tier of the Iraqi football, from 1984 until 1990. The club's home stadium was Al-Karkh Stadium (then known as Al-Rasheed Stadium). Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya
Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya ( ar, نادي القوة الجوية الرياضي, lit=Air Force Club) is an Iraqi sports club based in Rusafa District, Baghdad that competes in the Iraqi Premier League, the top-flight of Iraqi football. Founded in 1931, it is the oldest existing club in Iraq. Its football team is one of the most successful in Iraq having won seven Iraqi Premier League titles, most recently in the 2020–21 season, which it won alongside its fifth Iraq FA Cup title. 1975–76 Iraqi National League
The 1975–76 Iraqi National Clubs First Division was the 2nd season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. Newly-promoted club Al-Zawraa, founded in 1969, won the league title and also won the Iraq FA Cup to complete the first national double in Iraqi football. Al-Zawraa's squad included many of the players that played for Al-Naqil in the 1974–75 season, a club that folded due to financial difficulties after finishing as league runners-up that campaign.
