Al-Rasheed Sports Club ( ar, نادي الرشيد الرياضي) was an Iraqi sports club based in Karkh, Baghdad. Its professional football team played in the Iraqi Premier League, the top tier of the Iraqi football, from 1984 until 1990. The club's home stadium was Al-Karkh Stadium (then known as Al-Rasheed Stadium). Founded in 1983 by Uday Hussein, the son of Saddam Hussein, Al-Rasheed were promoted to the top tier in their first season of existence and went on to win 3 league titles in the row, 2 FA Cups, 3 Arab Champions Cup titles, and reach the final of the 1988–89 Asian Club Championship. In 1990, the club was dissolved and all its properties as well as its place in the top division were transferred to Al-Karkh SC. Al Karkh Stadium
Al-Saher Ahmed Radhi Stadium ( ar, ملعب الساحر احمد راضي, lit=''Magician Ahmed Radhi Stadium'') is a multi-use stadium in Baghdad, Iraq. It is used mostly for football matches and serves as the home stadium of Al-Karkh. The stadium holds 5,150 people. The stadium was originally called Al-Mansour Local Administration Stadium and was renamed Al-Rasheed Stadium when Al-Rasheed SC took over the ground in 1984. It became known as Al-Karkh Stadium after Al-Karkh replaced the dissolved Al-Rasheed in the top division in 1990. The 1988–89 Asian Club Championship was the 8th edition of the annual Asian club football competition hosted by Asian Football Confederation. Laith Hussein
Laith Hussein Shihaib Al-Tawlid ( ar, ليث حسين شهيب التولد; born 13 October 1968) is an Iraqi former football player who was the captain of the Iraqi national team. He was vital to speaking out against Uday Hussein, the chairman of the Iraqi Olympic Committee, who was known for his brutality against the football team. International career Hussein made his international debut at the age of 17 in 1986. He played in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul and helped Iraq win the Asian Youth Championship in Doha. In the World Youth Cup in Saudi Arabia a year later, Hussein was on the verge of joining Spanish giants Barcelona, after scoring one of the goals in a 2–0 win over Spain, helping Iraq to top their group, but was denied this move by then-president Saddam Hussein. Haris Mohammed
Haris Mohammed Hassan (born 3 March 1958) is an Iraqi football midfielder who played for Iraq in the 1986 FIFA World Cup. He also played for Al-Rasheed Club. Haris Mohammed was a skilful and creative right sided attacking midfielder, born and bred in Mosul. He started to hone his skills on the streets, frequently annoying the neighbours. After realising his potential on the football field, he played for the school province football team under the supervision of coach Dawud Azzawi. He earned reputation as a goalscorer with the Iraqi youth team winning the 1978 Asian Youth Championship in Bangladesh, he joined Talaba SC, helping them to two league titles while at the club. He had the most success while at Al-Rasheed, winning three leagues, two cups and a record three Arab Club Championships. Samir Shaker
Samir Shaker Mahmoud (born 28 February 1958) is an Iraqi former professional footballer who played as defender. He represented the Iraq national team in the 1986 FIFA World Cup. He also played for Al-Rasheed Club. Career Samir Shaker was one of the best central defenders during the 1980s. He started his career with Al-Jaish before moving to Salah-Al-Deen of Tikrit, who he captained the club to their first Iraqi league in 1983. After the title win, Samir and fellow team-mate Anad Abid joined the star-studded Baghdad-based club Al-Rasheed helping the club to 4 league titles, 2 cups and a record 3 Arab Championships. Adnan Dirjal
Adnan Dirjal ( ar, عدنان درجال مطر; born 26 January 1960 in Baghdad) is an Iraqi former footballer, national team coach, and as of May 2020 heads the Iraqi Ministry of Youth and Sports. He was one of Iraq's most prominent national team captains, who played as a defender. On 14 September 2021 he won the presidency of the Iraqi Football Association. Club career Adnan, a defender, started his career with Al-Zawraa, where he won the Iraqi league and cup double in 1978/1979. Ahmed Radhi
Ahmed Radhi Humaiesh Al-Salehi, ( ar, أحمد راضي هميش الصالحي, 21 April 1964 – 21 June 2020) was an Iraqi footballer who played as a forward. Regarded as one of Iraq and Asia's best players of all-time, Radhi scored the only Iraqi goal in the FIFA World Cup during its 1986 edition, a low shot to the corner of the net against Belgium in a 2–1 defeat. He was voted as the Asian Footballer of the Year in 1988. Ammo Baba
Emmanuel Baba Dawud (27 November 1934 – 27 May 2009), better known as Ammo Baba ( ar, عمو بابا, syr, ܥܡܘ ܒܒܐ), was an Iraqi Assyrian football player and coach of the Iraq national football team. He scored the first international goal for Iraq in 1957 against Morocco at the 2nd Pan Arab Games in Beirut and later returned to the team as the coach in 1978. Playing career Ammo Baba was born in Baghdad, Iraq, of Assyrian ethnicity.
