The 1982–83 Iraq FA Cup was the seventh edition of the Iraq FA Cup as a clubs-only competition. The tournament was won by Al-Jaish for the second time, beating Al-Shabab 2–1 in the final, with Hassan Farhan and Sadiq Ghanim scoring for Al-Jaish and Falah Hassan scoring for Al-Shabab. The quarter-finals saw Al-Tayaran (now known as Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya) beat Al-Zawraa 2–1 in a Baghdad Derby on 5 January 1983 with Khalid Fadhel and Hanoon Mashkoor scoring for Al-Tayaran and Thamir Yousef scoring for Al-Zawraa, before Al-Tayaran were knocked out by Al-Shabab in the semi-final 4–2 on penalties. Iraq FA Cup
The Iraq FA Cup, known as the Iraq Cup ( ar, كأس العراق) in Arabic, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic Iraqi football. First held in the 1948–49 season for clubs and institutions before returning in 1975–76 for clubs only, it is organised by the Iraq Football Association. The tournament begins with several rounds played between lower division clubs, twelve of which advance to the Round of 32, where the Iraqi Premier League clubs are entered. This is followed by the Round of 16, the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final which is played as a single leg in Baghdad. The winners of the competition are awarded a place in the next season's AFC Cup group stage as well as qualifying for the Iraqi Super Cup where they play against the league champions at the start of the following season (or the league runners-up, if the cup winners have won the double). Al-Shabab SC (Baghdad)
Al-Shabab Sports Club (''Youth SC'', ar, نادي الشباب الرياضي) is an Iraqi football club that is based in Baghdad. It currently plays in the Iraq Division Two. Its home colours are a shirt with blue and black Inter Milan style stripes with black shorts and blue socks and its away colors are a white shirt with blue shoulders and blue on the sides with blue shorts and white socks. In 1980, they won the Stafford Challenge Cup hosted in Bangalore, India, by beating Indian Telephone Industries 4–2 in the final. The tournament was won by Al-Zawraa for the fourth time, beating 1981–82 Iraqi National League champions Al-Talaba 2–1 in the final. Al-Zawraa qualified for the final by beating Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya 2–1 in the semi-final with goals from Thamir Yousef and Ahmed Radhi. Hassan Farhan Hassoun ( ar, حسن فرحان حسون; born 29 June 1953) is an Iraqi retired footballer who played as a defender. Club career Farhan played his entire career for Al-Jaish, where he won the 1983–84 Iraqi National League. International career He played his first international match against Algeria at the 1973 Palestine Cup of Nations. He won two World Military Cup in 1977 in Damascus and in 1979 in Kuwait, and the 5th Arabian Gulf Cup in Baghdad, scoring in the final group match against Saudi Arabia. Falah Hassan ( ar, فلاح حسن, born 1 July 1951) is a former Iraqi international football player, and current president of Al-Zawraa Sport Club in Baghdad. Early life Falah Hassan was born in 1951 in the village of Mimouna, in a district of Qal'at Saleh. His father was a farmer and after the 1958 Revolution, his family moved to Al-Thawra (now Al-Sadr) in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, taking advantage of the new government’s initiative in building low cost housing for families wanting to move to Baghdad, it was there he first played the game on the streets of the city. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya ( ar, نادي القوة الجوية الرياضي, lit=Air Force Club) is an Iraqi sports club based in Rusafa District, Baghdad that competes in the Iraqi Premier League, the top-flight of Iraqi football. Al-Zawraa Sports Club ( ar, نادي الزوراء الرياضي) is an Iraqi sports club based in Utayfia, Karkh District (near Tigris River), Baghdad. Their football team compete in the Iraqi Premier League, the top-flight of Iraqi football. Al-Zawraa are the most decorated club in Iraq having won 14 Premier League titles, 16 Iraq FA Cups and 5 Iraqi Super Cups, all national records. Al-Zawraa also won the Iraqi Elite Cup a joint-record 3 times. Baghdad Derbies
The Baghdad derbies are a series of derby matches between four Baghdad-based football clubs: Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya, Al-Shorta, Al-Talaba and Al-Zawraa, collectively known as the 'Popular Teams'. They are the four most successful teams in the history of Iraqi football, and league games between the clubs are played at the neutral venue of Al-Shaab Stadium to accommodate more spectators. The match between Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya and Al-Zawraa is often referred to as the Iraqi El Clásico. Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya were the first to be founded in 1931, and Montakhab Al-Shorta were founded in 1932, with these two sides developing a strong rivalry during the Iraq Central FA League era. Thamir Yousef
Elias Thamir Yousif ( ar, تامر يوسف) (born 1 July 1953) was an Assyrian football player. A long time Al Zawra member, Thamir led the Iraq Super League in goals on three occasions (1975, 1976, 1982) and was 2nd in the league on two occasions. His domestic club career lasted from 1970 to 1987. He led his team, Al Zawraa, to three national titles (1976, 1977, 1979). He was part of the dangerous offensive trio of Al Zawra during the 1970s that included Ali Kadhim and the Falah Hassan. He started his football career in 1970 for Al-Sikak Al-Hadeed. Thamir was first selected for the national team at the age of 20 in 1973. His accomplishments on the domestic scene includes 3 league and 4 cup titles with the Al-Zawraa, whom he played for 17 years.
