Salah Zulfikar Filmography

Salah Zulfikar (1926-1993) was an Egyptian actor and film producer, who appeared in over 100 feature films, several short films, stage, television and Radio serials. Zulfikar‘s film debut was in 1956 in a leading role becoming one of the most dominant leading men in Egyptian cinema. He starred in action, crime, war, drama, horror, romance, and romantic comedies.

Salah Zulfikar’s film debut was in ''Wakeful Eyes'' (1956) alongside Shadia. He played the role of Ahmed the playboy in Mahmoud Zulfikar’s '' Forbidden Women'' (1959) alongside Huda Sultan, and Ezz El-Dine Zulficar’s '' Among the Ruins'' (1959) alongside Faten Hamama and Emad Hamdy.

The following years, Zulfikar starred in commercial hits including; Niazi Mostafa’s ''A Scrap of Bread'' (1960). His next role was Magdy in the romance; ''Wahida'' (1961) alongside Mariam Fakhr Eddine. The following years, Salah Zulfikar achieved success all over the Middle East through multiple film genres including the horror box office hit; ''The Cursed Palace'' (1962), ''Appointment at the Tower'' (1962) alongside Soad Hosny. He starred in '' A Husband on Vacation'' (1964) achieving box office success. He starred as a gold thief in '' Three Thieves'' (1966). His next role was Yehia in Youssef Chahine’s ''The Nile and the Life'' (1968).

Zulfikar's next roles included; in ''Virgo'' (1970), a box office hit co-starred by Nahed Sherif and Adel Emam, Mohsen in ''A Call for Lif''e (1972) co-starring Mervat Amin and Mahmoud El-Meliguy, and Adel in '' The Other Man'' (1973), Nabil in ''In Summer We must Love'' (1974) along with other films all of which focused on commercial success. He starred in the thriller, ''Roadless Traveller'' (1978) a box office hit alongside Mahmoud Yassin and Magda El Khatib. A police detective in ''Desire and Price'' (1978) alongside Shoukry Sarhan, Nahed Sherif, among others. His next roles include Abdel Ghaffar Lotfy in '' A Moment of Weakness'' (1981), and it was a complex character earning him critical recognition, co-starred by Hussein Fahmy and Nelly.

Zulfikar starred as a famous writer in Anis Mansour’s novel adaptation ''Sorry for Bothering'' (1986). He played Fadel Abu Al-Fadl in ''The Barefoot Millionaire'' (1987). His box office hit; '' Days of Terror'' (1988) was a commercial comeback for Zulfikar alongside Mahmoud Yassin and Mervat Amin.

In the next years, Zulfikar starred in the comedy; ''Mr. Aliwa’s Apartment'' (1989) alongside Laila Taher, and ''Mr. Shalash's Family'', a television series and it was a huge success. Zulfikar appeared in a cameo appearance as himself in ''Alexandria Again and Forever'' (1990) of Youssef Chahine. Zulfikar's films in his later years included Henry Barakat‘s ''Wicked Game'' (1991), a box office hit co-starred by Athar El-Hakim, and ''Five-Star Thieves'' of Ashraf Fahmy, and Nader Galal’s '' The Terrorist'' (''Al Irhabi''), all released in 1994.

Zulfikar’s film production career started in 1958, he produced fourteen feature films, his prominent productions included '' Among the Ruins'' (1959), ''Struggle of the Heroes'' (1962), ''My Wife, the Director General'' (1966), ''A Taste of Fear'' (1969) and ''I Want a Solution'' (1975). He also co-produced a short film named Death Song (1973) starring Faten Hamama.

Acting in the theater, Zulfikar’s debut was in 1964’s ''A Bullet in the Heart'' based on Tawfik El Hakim’s novel with the same name alongside Laila Taher. Afterwards, he starred in more than twenty plays in Cairo theatres including ''Robabikia'' (1967) alongside Taheyya Kariokka and Nabila Ebeid, ''A Batchelor and three Maidens'' (1972), ''Three Cards Hotel'' (1974) co-starred by Samir Ghanem and George Sidhom, ''One Wife is Enough'' (1979), ''Possible? Not Possible'' (1985) alongside Huda Sultan and his final play was ''The Earthquake'' (1990) based on Mustafa Mahmoud’s book with the same name.

Zulfikar participated in over 250 artistic projects either cinematic, televised, radio or stage. He was a film producer and film, stage, television, and radio actor.

Salah Zulfikar produced five films and starred in ten, two of which as an actor and a producer with a total of thirteen films listed in the greatest 100 films in the centenary of Egyptian cinema. Zulfikar played all kind of roles in an impressive career spanning over thirty seven years.
