WOSM-European Region
The European Scout Region is one of six geographical subdivisions of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, with a satellite office in Brussels, Belgium. Structure Members The European Scout Region comprises 40 National Scout Organizations that are members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, and services Scouting in Western Europe, Western and Central Europe, excluding the former Soviet republics (which comprise the Eurasian Scout Region (World Organization of the Scout Movement), Eurasian Scout Region, but inclusive, for cultural reasons, of Cyprus (technically not part of Europe, but a member-state of the European Union) and Turkey (which spans across two continents), and, as a member of the United Nations' Western European and Others Group, Israel (despite being part of Asia due to them being barred in its own continent's organizations under the Arab League boycott of Israel, Arab-led boycott). Pfadfinder und Pfadfinderinnen Österreichs (PPÖ; ''Austrian Boy Scouts and Girl Guides'') is the largest Scouting and Guiding organization in Austria and the only one approved by World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) and the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM). The association claims more than 300 troops (local units) with more than 85,000 Scouts nationwide. WOSM and WAGGGS give quite smaller membership values for the PPÖ: 9,503 Scouts (as of 2013) and 10,508 Guides (as of 2003). The badge of the PPÖ is dark red with a white combination of a fleur-de-lis and a trefoil, the symbols of WOSM and WAGGGS, respectively.
