Vemb Station
Vemb railway station is a railway station serving the small railway town of Vemb in West Jutland, Denmark. Vemb station is located on the Esbjerg–Struer railway line from Esbjerg to Struer and is the southern terminus of the Lemvig railway line from Vemb to Thyborøn via Lemvig. The station opened in 1875. It offers regional rail services to Holstebro and Skjern, as well as local train services to Lemvig and Thyborøn, both operated by the railway company Midtjyske Jernbaner. History The station opened on 31 March 1875 as the section from Holstebro to Ringkøbing of the new Esbjerg–Struer railway line opened. In 1879, the station became the southern terminus of the new Lemvig railway line, which connected the market town of Lemvig with the Danish rail network. The rail transport system in Denmark consists of 2,633 km of railway lines, of which the Copenhagen S-train network, the main line Helsingør-Copenhagen-Padborg (at the German border), and the Lunderskov-Esbjerg line are electrified. Most traffic is passenger trains, although there is considerable transit goods traffic between Sweden and Germany. Maintenance work on most Danish railway lines is done by Banedanmark, a state-owned company that also allocates tracks for train operators. The five Regions of Denmark ( da, regioner) were created as administrative entities at a level above the municipalities and below the central government in the public sector as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform, when the 13 counties ('' amter'') were abolished. At the same time, the number of municipalities ('' kommuner'') was cut from 270 to 98. The reform was approved and made into a law by the lawmakers in the Folketing 26 June 2005 with elections to the 98 municipalities and 5 regions being held Tuesday 15 November 2005. Vemb is a little town in west Jutland, Denmark wtith a population of 1,276 (1 January 2022). ''Vemb Kirke'' *1844 ''Vemb'' The first time the town was named, it was called ''Weæm''. The ending letter ''b'' emerged around the year 1600, disappeared, then finally appeared again in 1844 in the present spelling form ''Vemb''. The meaning of ''Vemb'' is not known, but could possibly mean "vi" (Danish for "we"). The oldest building in the current city boundary is ''Vemb kirke'' (Vemb church), which has undergone few changes since it was built around 1200.
