Lemvig Municipality
Lemvig is a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Region Midtjylland on the west coast of the Jutland peninsula in west Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 516.63 km2, and has a population of 20,657 (1 January 2015). Its mayor is Erik Flyvholm, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Lemvig. The town has a population of 6,966. The current municipality was enlarged on January 1, 2007 as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007) when the former Thyborøn-Harboøre municipality was merged into the existing Lemvig municipality. A significant part of its southern border is defined by the waters of Bøvling Fjord, Indfjorden and Nissum Fjord. Danish People's Party
The Danish People's Party ( da, Dansk Folkeparti, DPP/DF) is a nationalist and right-wing populist political party in Denmark. It was formed in 1995 by former members of the Progress Party (FrP). The DPP lent its support to the Venstre– Conservative People's Party coalition government that ruled from the general election of 2001 until the 2011 election defeat. While not part of the cabinet, DPP cooperated closely with the governing coalition on most issues and received support for key political stances in return, to the point that the government was commonly referred to as the "VKO-government" (O being DPP's election symbol). The Green Left ( da, Socialistisk Folkeparti, SF) is a democratic socialist political party in Denmark. It was formerly known in English as the Socialist People's Party, the literal translation of its Danish name. History 1959–1969 The SF was founded on 15 February 1959 by Aksel Larsen, a former leader of the Communist Party of Denmark (DKP). Larsen was removed from the ranks of the DKP for his criticism over the Soviet intervention in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Larsen and the new SF sought to form a third way between Denmark's United States-oriented social democracy and Soviet Union–oriented communism, which sought to combine democracy with socialism. The Social Democrats ( da, Socialdemokraterne, ) is a social democratic political party in Denmark. Lemvig Museum
Lemvig Museum is a local museum in Lemvig, Denmark. It has a number of exhibits about local points of interest, which is the subject of a major multimedia exhibition. Most notably is the exhibition of the Russian frigate Alexander Nevsky which wrecked in September 1868 on the coast between Harboøre and Thyborøn. The museum features works by several local artists including sculptor Torvald Westergaard (1901-1988) and the painters Niels Bjerre (1864–1942), Kristen Bjerre (1869–1943) and Jens Søndergaard (1895-1957) presented at the museum. Also featured as part of the museum is the "Planetary Path," a trail which features a model of the Solar System at a 1 to 1 billion scale. Jens Søndergaard
Jens Søndergaard (October 4, 1895 – May 21, 1957) was a Danish expressionist painter. He specialised in strongly coloured landscapes depicting his feelings for the power of nature and the sea. Søndergaard won both national and international acclaim. Biography Jens Andersen Søndergaard was born in the small town Øster Assels on the island of Mors (island), Mors. His father, Anders Søndergaard, was a painter, but later opened a bicycle shop in Hurup Thy, Hurup on Thy (district), Thy. After finishing school, Jens Søndergaard also began training as a painter. After having served his apprenticeship, he was admitted to the technical school in Aarhus. While he worked as a painter, he tried to break through as an artist. He succeeded rather quickly, and was admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1916, where his teacher was Malthe Engekstad.
