Jens Søndergaard
Jens Søndergaard (October 4, 1895 – May 21, 1957) was a Danish expressionist painter. He specialised in strongly coloured landscapes depicting his feelings for the power of nature and the sea. Søndergaard won both national and international acclaim. Biography Jens Andersen Søndergaard was born in the small town Øster Assels on the island of Mors (island), Mors. His father, Anders Søndergaard, was a painter, but later opened a bicycle shop in Hurup Thy, Hurup on Thy (district), Thy. After finishing school, Jens Søndergaard also began training as a painter. After having served his apprenticeship, he was admitted to the technical school in Aarhus. While he worked as a painter, he tried to break through as an artist. He succeeded rather quickly, and was admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen in 1916, where his teacher was Malthe Engekstad. Mors (island)
Mors or Morsø is an island in the shallow sound (geography), sound called Limfjorden within Denmark, Denmark's Jutland peninsula. Lemvig Museum
Lemvig Museum is a local museum in Lemvig, Denmark. It has a number of exhibits about local points of interest, which is the subject of a major multimedia exhibition. Most notably is the exhibition of the Russian frigate Alexander Nevsky which wrecked in September 1868 on the coast between Harboøre and Thyborøn. The museum features works by several local artists including sculptor Torvald Westergaard (1901-1988) and the painters Niels Bjerre (1864–1942), Kristen Bjerre (1869–1943) and Jens Søndergaard (1895-1957) presented at the museum. Also featured as part of the museum is the "Planetary Path," a trail which features a model of the Solar System at a 1 to 1 billion scale. Art Of Denmark
Danish art is the visual arts produced in Denmark or by Danish artists. It goes back thousands of years with significant artifacts from the 2nd millennium BC, such as the Trundholm sun chariot. For many early periods, it is usually considered as part of the wider Nordic art of Scandinavia. Art from what is today Denmark forms part of the art of the Nordic Bronze Age, and then Norse art, Norse and Viking art. Danish medieval painting is almost entirely known from church frescos in Denmark, church frescos such as those from the 16th-century artist known as the Elmelunde Master. The Reformation greatly disrupted Danish artistic traditions, and left the existing body of painters and sculptors without large markets. The requirements of the court and aristocracy were mainly for portraits, usually by imported artists, and it was not until the 18th century that large numbers of Danes were trained in contemporary styles. Skovshoved
Skovshoved is a former fishing village on the Øresund coast north of Copenhagen, Denmark. The area is part of Charlottenlund postal district and Gentofte Municipality. Local landmarks include Skovshoved Church, Sjovshoved Hotel and the listed Arne Jacobsen-designed Skovshoved Petrol Station from 1938. History The first known reference to Skovshoved (''Scogshouet'') is from 1275. It was originally a small fishing village with just a few houses. An inn, Skovshoved Kro, opened in the village in 1660. In 1620 it obtained status of royal privileged inn, enabling it to brew its own beer. Skovshoved was known for its fish wives, ''Skovserkoner'', who would carry the day's catch in caskets on their back to the fish market at Gammel Strand in Copenhagen.
