Turbo Angels
Turbo Angels are a Slovenian turbo-folk quartet. Menart Records published their premier single, ''Naj se dviga'', in 2005, and their debut album, ''Mi smo za…'', in June 2006. Dejan Bojanec replaced Dejan Gorenjec Raj as the band's diatonic accordion player in 2006, shortly before the release of ''Mi smo za…'', which they had already recorded with Raj. Raj (age 24 at the time of his announcement) left Turbo Angels in March 2006, citing medical problems. Turbo-folk (sometimes referred as pop-folk or popular folk) is subgenre of contemporary pop music with its origins in Serbia, that initially developed during the 1980s and 1990s, with similar music styles in Bulgaria (chalga), Romania (manele) and Albania (tallava). It is a fusion genre of popular music, blending Serbian folk music with other genres: such as pop, rock, electronic and some hip-hop. Background and characteristics Turbo-folk music emerged as a subculture in the countryside during the 1970s before migrating to the city in the '80s and eventually reaching further expansion in the '90s during the rule of Slobodan Milošević, Yugoslav Wars, inflation and political isolation. A melodeon or diatonic button accordion is a member of the free-reed aerophone family of musical instruments. Slovenia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 27 times since its debut in , having hosted a qualification round (Kvalifikacija za Millstreet) in Ljubljana for seven countries due to the influx of new nations wishing to join the Eurovision Song Contest. The Eurovision Song Contest 2008 was the 53rd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Belgrade, Serbia, following the country's victory at the with the song "Molitva" by Marija Šerifović. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Radio Television of Serbia (RTS), the contest was held at the Belgrade Arena, and (for the first time) consisted of two semi-finals on 20 and 22 May, and a final on 24 May 2008.
