Too Pure
Too Pure was a London-based independent record label formed in 1990 by Richard Roberts and Paul Cox. The label gained prominence after the release of PJ Harvey's debut album '' Dry'' in 1992, and subsequently found further success in the late 1990s and early 2000s with albums by indie rock artists such as Mclusky and Electrelane. The label was closed in 2008. History Too Pure started off as an experimental label and built its reputation by releasing primarily alternative/independent music which its founders felt was being ignored by major labels. At its inception Too Pure was largely preoccupied by the so-called Camden Lurch scene, through its 'Sausage Machine' night in North London (documented by its ''Now That's Disgusting Music'' (1990) compilation). Beggars Group
Beggars Group is a British record company that owns or distributes several other labels, including 4AD, Rough Trade Records, Matador Records, XL Recordings and Young. History The companies’ roots stem from the Beggars Banquet record shops, which first opened in 1973 with a shop in Earls Court, London. In 1977, spurred by the prevailing DIY aesthetics of the British punk rock movement (then at the height of its popularity), the shop founders decided to join the fray as an independent label and release records as Beggars Banquet Records, which became the group's flagship label and namesake. The first band on the label was English punk group The Lurkers; the first ever release on the label was The Lurkers' punk classic "Shadow"/"Love Story" 7" single. Billy Mahonie
Billy Mahonie is a British post-rock band. History British instrumental rock quartet Billy Mahonie formed in London in 1997. The original line-up consisted of Gavin Baker (guitar), Howard Monk (drums), Hywell Dinsdale (bass and guitar) and Kevin Penney (bass). Their first release was on the Fierce Panda record label, a split-single with Rothko, followed by a release on the Fierce Panda offshoot Livid Meerkat and an EP on Gold Hole Recordings. At the start of 1999 the band signed with Too Pure, who released their debut album ''The Big Dig'' produced by Head. That year they also recorded their first of two Peel Sessions, and toured Europe. Menace Beach (band)
Menace Beach are a five-piece indie rock band from Leeds, England. Ryan Needham from the band, is also a member of Yard Act. Biography Menace Beach were formed by core members Ryan Needham (currently the bass player in Leeds band Yard Act) and Liza Violet (formerly of Department M) in 2012. Although the band have a revolving cast of musicians, it has invariably included Nestor Matthews (previously of Sky Larkin), Matt Spalding and Nick Chantler (of Seize The Chair). They have also played with MJ of Hookworms, Robert Lee of Pulled Apart By Horses and Paul Draper of Mansun, who provided backing vocals and guitar on their BBC Radio 6 Music Marc Riley session. Hookworms (band)
Hookworms were an English five-piece neo-psychedelic rock band from Leeds/ Halifax that formed in 2010. Between 2010 and 2018 the band released 3 studio albums and became known for their live shows. Anonymous allegations of abuse by an unnamed woman that were reported by a third party against the band’s singer saw the dissolution of the Hookworms in 2018. Biography Hookworms released their first tape cassette EP on Sun Araw's Sun Ark/Magic Lantern label in August 2011. They were known for their live shows. They released live recordings (including a CD release of their WFMU live session) and several other releases through Gringo Records. False Advertising are a British three-piece alternative rock group from Manchester and Oxford, England. Biography False Advertising was formed by Jen Hingley and Chris Warr in 2013, with Josh Sellers completing the lineup in 2014. Upon deciding that between them they could produce and release their own music, they set about writing and self recording their debut album. Pulled Apart by Horses are an English alternative rock band from Leeds. They formed in early 2008. The band were signed by Transgressive Records in 2009, and released their debut self-titled album '' Pulled Apart by Horses'' on 21 June 2010. In August 2011, they went into Monnow Valley Studio in Wales to record with record producer Gil Norton, and their second album ''Tough Love'' was released to critical acclaim on 20 January 2012. Adrian Nicholas Matthews Thaws (born 27 January 1968), better known by his stage name Tricky, is a British record producer and rapper. Lollapalooza (Lolla) is an annual American four-day music festival held in Grant Park in Chicago. It originally started as a touring event in 1991 but several years later made Chicago the permanent location for the annual music festival. Long Fin Killie
Long Fin Killie were a Scottish experimental rock/ post-rock band, which released three albums and several EPs on the British avant-rock label Too Pure in the 1990s. History Long Fin Killie's core lineup consisted of Luke Sutherland (vocals, violin, guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, saxophone, hammer dulcimer, thumb piano, etc.), Colin Greig (electric and upright bass), David Turner (drums/percussion), and Philip Cameron (electric guitar). Sutherland had previously been in a band called Fenn, based in Glasgow, who played many support gigs, including Ride and Catherine Wheel.
