Billy Mahonie
Billy Mahonie is a British post-rock band. History British instrumental rock quartet Billy Mahonie formed in London in 1997. The original line-up consisted of Gavin Baker (guitar), Howard Monk (drums), Hywell Dinsdale (bass and guitar) and Kevin Penney (bass). Their first release was on the Fierce Panda record label, a split-single with Rothko, followed by a release on the Fierce Panda offshoot Livid Meerkat and an EP on Gold Hole Recordings. At the start of 1999 the band signed with Too Pure, who released their debut album ''The Big Dig'' produced by Head. That year they also recorded their first of two Peel Sessions, and toured Europe. In 2000 Mahonie moved to Southern Records and recorded their second album with Toby Robinson, Harvey Birrell and Head producing. The double album ''What Becomes Before'' was released in 2001. Hefner (band)
Hefner were a British indie rock band formed in east London in 1995. They were active from about 1996 until 2002; since then they have played together only once, for a tribute to the DJ John Peel, who was a strong supporter of theirs. History Hefner's roots stretch back to 1992, when Darren Hayman and Antony Harding met at art school in Kent. The band started playing live in 1995 and, after several line up changes, became a solo project of Darren Hayman. In 1996 he recorded a tape for Sticky Records (named '' The Devotion Chamber'') on which all instruments were played by Hayman himself. His friend from art school, Antony Harding, assisted, providing backing vocals. The band's first release was in April 1997 when the 7-inch single "A Better Friend" was released by Boogle Wonderland. Toby Hrycek-Robinson
Toby Hrycek-Robinson is a British producer, composer, and recording engineer from London, UK. Biography Hrycek-Robinson began his career in Germany where he spent time as a sound engineer working for Karlheinz Stockhausen and Péter Eötvös in Cologne's Westdeutscher Rundfunk Studios. By the early 1970s he had moved to Dieter Dierks' studio, where he recorded with a number of krautrock bands, including work on CAN’s '' Landed'' album in 1975. During this period he used spare studio time to experiment with visiting musicians, often working under pseudonyms such as "The Mad Twiddler" or "Genius P. Orridge". He also teamed up with Fluxus artist Robin Page, creating the mythological ''Pyramid'' label to release the tracks under names such as ''Cozmic Corridors'' and ''Golem''. Rothko (band)
Rothko are an English, London-based mainly instrumental ambient group. The group mainly use bass guitars and keyboards to create their soundscapes. They derived their name from the painter Mark Rothko. They have been described by others as post-rock for their use of a rock instrument, the bass guitar, to create what is according to some as non-rock music. History Formed in 1997, the original line-up consisted of Mark Beazley, Crawford Blair, and Jon Meade all playing bass guitar in a variety of different ways. This line-up released three albums on Lo Recordings and a host of singles and EPs on labels such as Bella Union, Bip Hop, Narwhal, and Livid Meerkat (Fierce Panda subsidiary) amongst others, before Beazley disbanded it in 2001. Fierce Panda
Fierce Panda Records is a London-based independent record label, with its first release in February 1994. It also produced a small number of releases that year by now famous artists such as Ash, The Bluetones, Baby Bird and Supergrass. Fierce Panda is also credited with releases by Acres of Lions, Air Traffic, Art Brut, The Blackout, Boy Kill Boy, Coldplay, Death Cab for Cutie, Desperate Journalist, Embrace, Goldheart Assembly, Kenickie, Seafood, Keane, Placebo, The Polyphonic Spree and Shitdisco.
