Thekkathi Ponnu ( ta, தெக்கத்தி பொண்ணு) is a 2008 Tamil soap opera that aired on Kalaignar TV. The show premiered on 14 April 2008 and aired Monday through Friday at 8:30PM IST. The show starred Napoleon, Ranjitha, Swarnamalya, Chandrasekhar and Bhuvaneswari. The show was directed by Bharathiraja and it marked his television debut as director. It was produced by P. Jayaraj under Manoj Creations. It had been receiving the highest ratings of Tamil serials and received high praising from viewers. The show last aired on 20 September 2011 and ended with 750 episodes. Plot The story of three villages, three families and three generations. And the generations-long conflict between the families of Napoleon and Chandrasekhar. Bharathiraja
Bharathiraja (born 17 July 1941) is an Indian film director and actor who works mainly in the Tamil film industry. Making his debut in 1977 with ''16 Vayathinile'', he is known for realistic and sensitive portrayals of rural life in his films. As of 2017, he has won six National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards South, two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and a Nandi Awards, Nandi Award. He has also directed films in Telugu language, Telugu and Hindi language, Hindi. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri award, India's fourth-highest civilian honour, in 2004 for his contribution to the film industry. In 2005, he was conferred with the Doctor of Letters (honorary degree) from Sathyabama University. Parithimar Kalaignar (born V. G. Suryanarayana Sastri at Vilacheri near Thirupparankundram on 6 July 1870 – 2 November 1903), a Professor of Tamil at the Madras Christian College, was the first person to campaign for the recognition of Tamil as a classical language. Life Suryanarayana Sastri was born at Vilacheri near Thirupparankundram in a Brahmin family. He graduated in philosophy and was soon employed as a Professor of Tamil in the Madras Christian College.
