The Pioneer (Indian Newspaper)
''The Pioneer'' is an English-language daily newspaper in India. It is published from multiple locations in India, including Delhi. It is the second oldest English-language newspaper in India still in circulation after ''The Times of India''. In 2010, The Pioneer launched its Hindi version in Lucknow. Author Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936), in his early 20s, worked at the newspaper office in Allahabad as an assistant editor from November 1887 to March 1889. In July 1933, ''The Pioneer'' was sold to a syndicate and moved from Allahabad to Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, at which time the ''Pioneer Mail and India Weekly News'' ceased publication. The newspaper remained a primarily Lucknow-based paper until 1990, when it was purchased by the Thapar Group, under L. M. Thapar, who made it a national newspaper, published from Delhi, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar, Kochi, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Dehradun and Ranchi. Thapar sold the paper to its editor Chandan Mitra in 1998. Kochi
Kochi (), also known as Cochin ( ) ( the official name until 1996) is a major port city on the Malabar Coast of India bordering the Laccadive Sea, which is a part of the Arabian Sea. Shekhar Gurera
Lalit Kala Academy Shekhar Gurera, or Chander Shekhar Gurera, is an Indian editorial cartoonist, illustrator, and graphic designer. He publishes regular cartoons with comments about India's political and social trends. His daily pocket cartoons appear in several English, Hindi, and regional language daily newspapers ''Punjab Kesari'', ''Hind Samachar'', '' Jag Bani, Nava Bharat, Central Chronicle,'' '' The Pioneer'', '' Sanmarg'' and ''Navodaya Times'' among others. Sudhir Dar
Sudhir Dar (14 May 1932 – 26 November 2019) was an Indian cartoonist and illustrator. Starting with ''The Statesman'' in 1961, he went on to work as the political cartoonist with ''Hindustan Times'' from 1967 for over two decades. Subsequently, he joined '' The Pioneer'' and in 2000 started working as a freelancer. Early life Sudhir Dar, who was of Kashmiri descent, was born in 1932 in Allahabad to Krishna Prasad Dar. He earned a master's degree in geography from the University of Allahabad. Career Dar started his career with All India Radio, working as an announcer in the 1950s. A sketch he drew of the news editor of ''The Statesman'' during a talk radio show led to an offer to work at the paper. KPS Gill
Kanwar Pal Singh Gill (29 December 1934 – 26 May 2017) was an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer. He served twice as DGP for the state of Punjab, India, where he is credited with having brought the Punjab insurgency under control. While many see him as a hero, there are accusations that he and the forces under his command were responsible for multiple cases of human rights violation "in the name of stamping out terrorism." Ranchi
Ranchi (, ) is the capital of the Indian state of Jharkhand. Ranchi was the centre of the Jharkhand movement, which called for a separate state for the tribal regions of South Bihar, northern Odisha, western West Bengal and the eastern area of what is present-day Chhattisgarh. The Jharkhand state was formed on 15 November 2000 by carving out the Bihar divisions of Chota Nagpur and Santhal Parganas.
