Teisko Airfield is an airfield in the Velaatta village (in the former municipality of Teisko) in Tampere, Finland. It is located about southwest of city centre of Tampere. The airfield was completed in 1983, and it is owned by the City of Tampere and operated by Tampereen Vauhtipuisto ry. Teisko
Teisko () is a village and former municipality in Pirkanmaa region, Finland. It was consolidated in 1972 with Tampere, and at the same time Tampere got new districts: Kämmenniemi, Polso, Terälahti and Velaatta. Teisko's neighboring municipalities were Kangasala, Kuru, Orivesi, Ruovesi, Aitolahti and Ylöjärvi. Initially, the municipality comprised areas on both sides of Lake Näsijärvi, but in 1954, the areas west of Lake Näsijärvi were connected to Ylöjärvi and Kuru. The landscape of Teisko alternates between high, often steep hills and deep, in some places gorge-like valleys. The most significant valley is the canyon formed by Kaitavesi, Paarlahti and Peräjärvi, which stretches almost 15 kilometers east of Lake Näsijärvi. Keskusta ("City Centre") is a main district of the city of Tampere, Finland, formed by less than 20 suburbs in the city centre. Over 63,000 people live in Keskusta. ''Tamperelainen'' (literally translated "Tamperean", meaning person who live in Tampere) is Finland's oldest city newspaper for the free distribution, published in Tampere, Kangasala, Nokia, Lempäälä, Pirkkala and Ylöjärvi. History The first issue of ''Tamperelainen'' was published on September 19, 1957. The cover of the first issue contained stories about the author Väinö Linna and the state of the Pyynikki's pines. On the inside were a horoscope compiled by Hymy Lahtinen, a marriage section, a special column on jazz music and the ''Lääkärin sana'' doctor column. Other stories told about the actor Eero Roine, the architecture from Tampere and the trip to New York. Gliding
Gliding is a recreational activity and competitive air sport in which pilots fly unpowered aircraft known as gliders or sailplanes using naturally occurring currents of rising air in the atmosphere to remain airborne. The word ''soaring'' is also used for the sport. Gliding as a sport began in the 1920s. Initially the objective was to increase the duration of flights but soon pilots attempted cross-country flights away from the place of launch.
