''Sega GT'', released in Japan as , is a sim racing video game co-developed by Wow Entertainment and TOSE, and published by Sega for their Dreamcast home console. The game was released in 2000. A Microsoft Windows version was published the following year—in Japan and North America by Sega, and in Europe by Empire Interactive. ''Sega GT'' was intended by Sega to rival Sony's popular '' Gran Turismo'' racing series, which was driving the strong sales of the PlayStation console and raising interest in the Dreamcast's closest competitor, the yet-unreleased PlayStation 2. While ''Sega GT'' was met with positive reception, sales were only modest, and the Dreamcast was given little traction against its competition. Wow Entertainment
is a development department within Japanese video game developer Sega that also previously existed as Wow Entertainment and AM1 spent most of its early existence under the leadership of Rikiya Nakagawa and developed a number of arcade games for Sega. In 2000, Sega split its development studios into nine semi-autonomous companies, with AM1 becoming Wow Entertainment. Wow developed games for the Dreamcast and later other consoles as well as arcade games. In 2003, as part of studio consolidations within Sega, Wow was merged with (originally titled and later AM7) and renamed to Sega Wow. Nakagawa resigned a few weeks later after Sammy Corporation acquired a significant amount of shares in Sega. Sega Wow was re-integrated back into the company the next year. ''Sega GT 2002'' is a sim racing video game published by Sega in 2002. It is the sequel to Wow Entertainment's ''Sega GT''. Following its initial release as a retail game, it was given away on a disc with ''Jet Set Radio Future'' in specially-marked Xbox console packages. Sega released ''Sega GT Online'' for the following year, with extra cars and an online facility to be used with the Xbox Live. Game features This is the only GT-style game that allows the player to select their opponents directly. Unlike the original game, there are no works cars to win anymore, even though old racing cars can still be won from races. Some prizes are "special prizes" that can only be won by doing a certain objective. The game makes use of a "damage meter" in lieu of rendered damage, but while it does not affect the handling, it will reduce the awarded prize money at the end of the race.
