Shen Lijuan
Shen Lijuan (; born 4 July 1958) is a Chinese female former track and field athlete who competed in the shot put. She is a three-time Asian champion and a former Asian record holder for the event. Shen was the first Chinese woman to have international success in the shot put. Her games record throw of to win the gold medal at the 1978 Asian Games made her the first Chinese to take the title and she achieved the same feat at the 1979 Asian Athletics Championships with a championship record of a year later. Athletics is a group of sporting events that involves competitive running, jumping, throwing, and walking. The most common types of athletics competitions are track and field, road running, cross country running, and racewalking. The results of racing events are decided by finishing position (or time, where measured), while the jumps and throws are won by the athlete that achieves the highest or furthest measurement from a series of attempts. The simplicity of the competitions, and the lack of a need for expensive equipment, makes athletics one of the most common types of sports in the world. They were held in the Grand Arena of the Central Lenin Stadium at Luzhniki (south-western part of Moscow) between July 24 and August 1.
