Scott Henderson (golfer)
Scott Henderson (born 10 September 1969) is a Scottish professional golfer. Henderson was born in Aberdeen. He worked as an engineer in the oil industry before turning professional in 1992. Having won his place on the European Tour at the 1996 final qualifying school, Henderson was named as the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year in 1997. He also finished inside the top 100 on the European Tour Order of Merit the following season, but lost his card at the end of 1999. Having failed on many occasions to regain his playing privileges via qualifying school, except for two seasons on the second tier Challenge Tour, he has relied mainly on invitations since then. Challenge Tour
The Challenge Tour is the second-tier men's professional golf tour in Europe. It is operated by the PGA European Tour and, as with on the main European Tour and the European Senior Tour, some of the events are played outside Europe. History The tour was introduced in 1986 and was initially called the ''Satellite Tour''. The Order of Merit was introduced in 1989, with the top five players on it winning membership of the European Tour for the following season. 1997 European Tour
The 1997 European Tour was the 26th official season of golf tournaments known as the PGA European Tour. The season was made up of 34 tournaments counting for the Order of Merit, and several non-counting "Approved Special Events". The Order of Merit was won by Scotland's Colin Montgomerie for the fifth year in succession. Qualifying School
In professional golf, the term qualifying school is used for the annual qualifying tournaments for leading golf tours such as the U.S.-based PGA and LPGA Tours and the European Tour. A fixed number of players in the event win membership of the tour for the following season, otherwise known as a "tour card", meaning that they can play in most of the tour's events without having to qualify. They join the leaders on the previous year's money list/order of merit and certain other exempt players as members of the tour. Getting through the qualifying school of an elite tour is very competitive and most professional golfers never achieve it. There can be up to four stages to negotiate, each of them like a regular golf tournament with only a small number of players going on to the next stage. The Northern Open is a golf tournament played annually in Scotland since 1931. For some years it was one of only two 72-hole tournaments on the "Tartan Tour", the PGA Tour in Scotland's schedule, the other being the Scottish PGA Championship, but since 2019 the event has been played over 36 holes. The Open Championship, often referred to as The Open or the British Open, is the oldest golf tournament in the world, and one of the most prestigious. PGA Cup
The PGA Cup is a men's golf competition for club professionals played between a Great Britain and Ireland team and a United States team. The winning team is presented with the Llandudno Trophy. The competition is run by the British PGA and the PGA of America. It was first played in 1973 and was an annual event until 1984, after which it became biennial. The 2022 event was held at the Foxhills Golf Club in Surrey, England, the second time that the course had been chosen to host the event.
