1997 European Tour
The 1997 European Tour was the 26th official season of golf tournaments known as the PGA European Tour. The season was made up of 34 tournaments counting for the Order of Merit, and several non-counting "Approved Special Events". The Order of Merit was won by Scotland's Colin Montgomerie for the fifth year in succession. Changes for 1997 There were several changes from the previous season, with the addition of the South African Open, which replaced the FNB Players Championship, and the loss of the Catalan Open, the Austrian Open and the Scottish Open, which was effectively superseded by the Loch Lomond World Invitational. Bernhard Langer
Bernhard Langer (; born 27 August 1957) is a German professional golfer. He is a two-time Masters champion and was one of the world's leading golfers throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In 1986, he became the sport's first official number one ranked player following the creation of the OWGR. Langer is one of five golfers who have won professional golf events on all six continents where golf is played. PGA Tour Of Australasia
The PGA Tour of Australasia, currently known for sponsorship reasons as the ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia, is a professional golf tour for men, owned and operated by the PGA of Australia. Official events on the tour count for World Golf Ranking points. The tour is recognised as being founded in 1973 when the PGA of Australia instituted an Order of Merit. Despite always including at least one tournament in New Zealand, the tour was known as the PGA Tour of Australia until it adopted its current name in 1991 following the inclusion of three events in Asia. Clinton Whitelaw
Clinton John Whitelaw (born 24 December 1970) is a South African professional golfer. Early life Whitelaw was born in Johannesburg. Professional career In 1990, he turned professional. Whitelaw has competed predominantly on the Southern Africa-based Sunshine Tour since then, where he has won three tournaments, including the 1993 Philips South African Open. He also played on the Canadian Tour during his early career. Whitelaw played on the European Tour the late 1990s, having won his card at the qualifying school at the end of 1996. He won the 1997 Moroccan Open, and went on to finish 54th on the Order of Merit that season. However he was unable to repeat that performance in the following seasons due to a recurring lumbar spine injury. Richard Green (golfer)
Richard George Green (born 19 February 1971) is an Australian professional golfer. Early life Green was born in Williamstown, Melbourne, Victoria. Professional career Green turned professional in 1992, and joined the PGA Tour of Australasia the same year. He has been a member of the European Tour since 1996, with his first win coming at the 1997 Dubai Desert Classic, where he became the first left-hander to win on the European Tour since Bob Charles at the Swiss Open in 1974. His consistent performances in 2004 took him to a career best European Tour Order of Merit finish of 17th. Dubai Desert Classic
The Dubai Desert Classic is a European Tour golf tournament held on Majlis course at Emirates Golf Club in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. In 1999 and 2000 it was held at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, all other editions have been held at Emirates Golf Club. The South African PGA Championship is one of the most prestigious golf tournaments on the Sunshine Tour. It is generally played in February, depending on the Tour Schedule, with a prize fund of 2 million rand, and is currently held at Eye of Africa Signature Golf Estate in the Johannesburg suburb of Eikenhof. Nicholas Raymond Leige Price (born 28 January 1957) is a Zimbabwean retired professional golfer who has won three major championships in his career: the PGA Championship twice (in 1992 and 1994) and The Open Championship in 1994. The Dimension Data Pro-Am is an annual golf tournament on the Southern African Sunshine Tour, founded in 1996. The tournament was co-sanctioned by the European Tour for the first two years. Miguel Ángel Martín (born 2 May 1962) is a Spanish professional golfer. Professional career Martín was born in Huelva. He started out as a caddie and turned professional in 1981. Heineken Classic
The Heineken Classic was a men's professional golf tournament played in Australia from 1990 to 2005 as part of the PGA Tour of Australasia. From 1990 to 1992 it was called the Vines Classic. It was held at the Vines Resort in Western Australia from 1990 to 2001 and moved to the Royal Melbourne Golf Club from 2002 to 2005. From 1996 onwards it was co-sanctioned by the European Tour.
