Sarah Fitz-Gerald
Sarah Elizabeth Fitz-Gerald AM (born 1 December 1968) is an Australian women's squash player who won five World Open titles – 1996, 1997, 1998, 2001 and 2002. She ranks alongside Janet Morgan, Nicol David, Susan Devoy, Michelle Martin and Heather McKay as the sport's greatest female players of all time. Career Fitz-Gerald was born in Melbourne, Australia, a hotspot for squash talent. In 1987, she won the female World Junior Championship and was the Australian Junior Female Athlete of the Year. It was also during this year that she represented Australia at the 1987 Women's World Team Squash Championships finishing runner-up to England. In 1992 she was selected once again to represent Australia in the 1992 Women's World Team Squash Championships and this time Australia became the world champions. 2002 Commonwealth Games
The 2002 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XVII Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Manchester 2002 were held in Manchester, England, from 25 July to 4 August, 2002. The 2002 Games were to be hosted in the United Kingdom to coincide with the Golden Jubilee of Elizabeth II, head of the Commonwealth, and Manchester was selected for the 2002 Games ahead of London using a recycled part of the project, which lost the 2000 Summer Olympics and Paralympics to Sydney, Australia. The 2002 Commonwealth Games were, prior to the 2012 Summer Olympics, the largest multi-sport event ever to be held in the UK, eclipsing the London 1948 Summer Olympics in terms of teams and athletes participating. World Squash Doubles Championships
The World Squash Doubles Championship has been held in North America since 1981 when it was sanctioned by the International Squash Racquets Federation. It has been held bi-annually since 1994 where it has alternated with the World Softball Doubles. Under the WSF rules, double pairs must be made up of two players from the same country. The WSF event has been held since 1997, being Australia 2019 last edition. Format In its most recent format, teams enter through their national governing body and the event is sanctioned by the WSF. The championships are played on courts measuring 32 feet (9.75 metres) by 25 feet – a court size approved by the World Squash Federation in 1992 for the international doubles game. This court size is the same depth as courts for the singles game, but appears to be slightly wider (singles courts are 21 feet wide). The 2010 Women's World Team Squash Championships is the women's edition of the 2010 World Team Squash Championships organized by the World Squash Federation, which serves as the world team championship for squash players. The tournament was organized by the World Squash Federation and Squash New Zealand. The events were held in Palmerston North, New Zealand and took place from November 28 to December 4, 2010.
