Sanremo Railway Station
Sanremo railway station is situated in the Italian city of Sanremo. History It was opened on 27 September 2001, with the opening of the new double-track line between Bordighera and Imperia, which is a deviation of the Genoa–Ventimiglia line, built mainly in tunnel. The new station replaced an old picturesque station on a single track line that ran along the shore. Overview The Sanremo station building contains a ticket hall, waiting room, information office, kiosk, and bar. The entrance building is connected to the platforms built in a tunnel by a long corridor, equipped with a moving walkway. Travel time is approximately 10 minutes. The station has two platforms connected by an underpass. As Sanremo is an important tourist destination and a significant source of commuter traffic, the station has substantial traffic. Trenitalia France is an open-access train operator running international services between France and Italy. It was originally established under the ''Thello'' brand in October 2011. On 11 December 2011, Thello ran its first night service, having rapidly come into operation to take advantage of a vacant niche opened by the withdrawal of the Artesia cross-border service only one month prior. The operator was initially structured as a joint venture, its ownership being divided between the Italian state-owned train operator Trenitalia and the French conglomerate Veolia Transdev. During June 2016, Transdev sold their share in the venture to Trenitalia. Within its early years of operations, Thello sought to expand onto other routes, including to direct compete with Thalys on the Paris-Brussels cross-border service. Sanremo Railway Station (1872)
San Remo railway station was the first station of Sanremo; was closed in 2001 due to the opening of the new double-track of the Genoa-Ventimiglia railway line from San Lorenzo to Bordighera and was replaced by a new station underground. History It was opened on 25 January 1872, with the opening of the track Savona and Ventimiglia of the Genoa–Ventimiglia line. It was closed on 24 September 2001, as a result of the double-tracking between San Lorenzo al Mare and Ospedaletti. Soon after it was abandoned the station was deprived of the overhead line and the tracks to asphalt the sediments and the docks. From 1913 to 1942 the square in front of the station had an interchange with the Ospedaletti-Sanremo-Taggia tramway. On 21 April 1942 the Italian Riviera trolleybus was inaugurated and was in service until being temporarily suspended in December 2019.
