Razvan Preotu (born August 11, 1999 in Toronto, Ontario) is a Canadian chess player who holds the FIDE title of Grandmaster. Early life, family, and education Preotu is the son of Rene and Gabriela Preotu, who came to Canada from Romania in 1998. Guelph ( ; 2021 Canadian Census population 143,740) is a city in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. Chess Olympiad
The Chess Olympiad is a biennial chess tournament in which teams representing nations of the world compete. FIDE organises the tournament and selects the host nation. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, FIDE held an Online Chess Olympiad in 2020 and 2021, with a rapid time control that affected players' online ratings. The use of the name "Chess Olympiad" for FIDE's team championship is of historical origin and implies no connection with the Olympic Games. Birth of the Olympiad The first Olympiad was unofficial. For the 1924 Olympics an attempt was made to include chess in the Olympic Games but this failed because of problems with distinguishing between amateur and professional players. Anton Kovalyov
Anton Kovalyov (born 4 March 1992) is a Ukrainian-born Canadian (formerly representing Argentina) chess grandmaster. Chess career In 2004, he finished equal first at the Pan American Under-12 Championship and thanks to this result he was awarded the title of FIDE Master. In 2008 Kovalyov played for the Argentine team at the 38th Chess Olympiad. At the FIDE congress held during the competition he was awarded the grandmaster title. In 2009 he won the Quebec Invitational Championship in Quebec, Canada. He won the Quebec Junior Championship in 2010, 2011 and 2012. He switched to the Canadian Chess Federation in 2013. Victor (Viktor) Mikhalevski ( he, ויקטור מיכלבסקי; born 8 July 1972) is an Israeli chess grandmaster who lives in Beersheba. his Elo rating was 2611, making him the #7 player in Israel and the 171st-highest rated player in the world. His peak rating to date was 2632, which he reached on 1 January 2008. Career Mikhalevski was born in Gomel, Belarus. Gata Kamsky ( tt-Cyrl, Гата Камский, italics=no; russian: Гата Камский; born June 2, 1974) is a Soviet-born American chess grandmaster, and a five-time U.S. champion. Kamsky reached the final of the FIDE World Chess Championship 1996 at the age of 22, and reached a ranking of fourth in the world rankings in 1995. He played almost no FIDE-rated games between 1997 and late 2004. Kamsky won the Chess World Cup 2007. This earned him a Candidates Match against Veselin Topalov, which he lost.
