Rachel Stuart (born 1972) is a Jamaican-Canadian model, actress and television personality. Personal life Stuart attended Mohawk College. Rachel Stuart is married to Paxton Baker, former vice president of BET Digital Networks and has three children. She currently resides in the Washington D.C., area. Career Stuart is a former Miss Caraïbes and Miss Jamaica and represented her country at Miss Universe 1993. She is best known for her work as hostess of two programs on BET, the BET network: ''Caribbean Rhythms'', a music video show showcasing musicians from Caribbean nations; and ''Planet Groove'', a music video show that was similar to ''Video Soul''. Rachel also had brief spots on Video Soul as a guest hostess. In 1999, she was a co-hostess of BET's ''Live From LA'' (with Michael Colyar). ''Video Soul'' is a two–hour long American music video program that originally aired on BET (Black Entertainment Television) from June 26, 1981 to September 1996. ''Planet Groove'' is a music oriented talk show that premiered in late-1996 on BET, when the short-lived ''Unreal'' was cancelled. This show's hostess was Rachel Stuart (who originally hosted ''Caribbean Rhythms''). Like ''Video Soul'', the show had a primetime slot, airing from 8PM-10PM (Eastern Time) as a 2-hour long music video program. It also had a Top-20 countdown on Fridays as well. Miss Universe 1993, the 42nd Miss Universe pageant, was held on 21 May 1993 at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City, Mexico. Miss Universe Jamaica (formerly Miss Jamaica Universe) is a beauty pageant that selects the contestant to represent Jamaica at the Miss Universe beauty pageant. History Although Jamaica started competing at the Miss Universe Pageant in 1961, the Miss Universe Jamaica pageant officially started in 1982 and was organised by Ed Wallace to select the official representative. This was won by Nancy Martin who was slated to compete at the Miss Universe pageant, but was unable to do so.
