Phacelia Purshii
Phacelia purshii, known by the common names Miami mist, scorpionweed, and purple scorpionweed, is a spring flowering annual forb with blue, lavender, violet, or nearly white flowers in the Boraginaceae (borage) family that is native to eastern and central North America. Description ''P. purshii'' is a delicate plant that grows to tall with slender, branching stems. Its leaves are alternate, have many sharply pointed lobes and are up to long. The lower leaves on the plant have a petiole, while the upper leaves are sessile. The inflorescence is a loose scorpioid cyme (the axis is curved like the tail of a scorpion), with 8 to 30 flowers. Flowers are light blue, violet, lavender, or nearly white with pale centers, and they have 5 fringed lobes. Samuel Botsford Buckley (May 9, 1809 – February 18, 1884) was an American botanist, geologist, and naturalist. He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1836. Buckley investigated the botany of the southern United States and discovered many new species of plants and mollusks. The plant genus ''Buckleya'' was named in his honor. Phacelia
''Phacelia'' (phacelia, scorpionweed, heliotrope) is a genus of about 200 species of annual or perennial herbaceous plants in the borage family, native to North and South America. California is particularly rich in species with over 90 recorded in the region. The genus is traditionally placed at family rank with the waterleafs ( Hydrophyllaceae) in the order Boraginales. The Angiosperm Phylogeny Group, recognizing that the traditional Boraginaceae and Hydrophyllaceae are paraphyletic with respect to each other, merges the latter into the former and considers the family basal in the Euasterids I clade. Other botanists continue to recognize the Hydrophyllaceae and Boraginales after analysing the secondary structure of the ITS1 genetic region rather than its sequence for these higher taxonomic levels.
