Prismen (literally "The Crystal") is a multifunctional sports and cultural venue in Holmbladsgade on Amager in Copenhagen, Denmark. Design An appendage to the surrounding buildings, it has a characteristic angled form and a translucent skin of polycarbonate panels which contrasts the bricks of the surrounding buildings, let daylight into the building in the daytime and makes it glow at night. Facilities The building has an area of 3,340 square metres and contain a large venue, a dance studio, a hall for cultural activities, four smaller rooms and a large balcony on the first floor. Holmbladsgade
Holmbladsgade is one of the most lively streets in the Amagerbro district of Copenhagen, Denmark, connecting Amagerbrogade to Strandlodsvej on the east coast of Amager. The surrounding neighbourhood is variously referred to as Holmbladsgadekvarteret (literally "The Holmbladsgade neighbourhood"), Amagerbro or Sundby North. History The street was originally known as Køhlertsvej (''Køhlerts Road'') and was access road to Køhlert's textile manufactury which had been founded in about 1770. Christianshavn Iron Foundry and Machine Factory built a large industrial complex at the road in the 1980s. The street received its current name in 1897 after Lauritz Peter Holmblad, a local industrialist and philanthropist, who had his home in the street until his death in 1890. Nathanael's Church was inaugurated in 1899 and over the next decades many apartment buildings sprung up along the street, which became part of a dense working-class neighbourhood. Dorte Mandrup-Poulsen (born 28 July 1961) is a Danish architect. Founder and Creative Director of the architectural practice Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter A/S that has approximately 60 employees. The practice is based in Copenhagen, Denmark and is behind several internationally acclaimed buildings. Dorte Mandrup’s work is characterized by being conceptually strong as well as innovative in terms of form and material, but also by an analytical approach to architecture. Dorte Mandrup is behind the Wadden Sea Centre at the Danish West Coast, the Icefjord Centre by the UNESCO trail in Ilulissat in Greenland, and most recently Danish clothing company Bestseller’s upcoming mixed use development in Brande, which has already received attention due to its plans of building a more than 200 metre tall tower, thereby becoming Denmark’s tallest building. Amager
Amager ( or, especially among older speakers, ) in the Øresund is Denmark's most densely populated island, with more than 212,000 inhabitants (January 2021) a small appendage to Zealand. The protected natural area of ''Naturpark Amager'' (including Kalvebod Fælled) makes up more than one-third of the island's total area of 96 km2. The Danish capital, Copenhagen Municipality, is partly situated on Amager, covering the northern part of the island, which is connected to the much larger island of Zealand by eight bridges and a metro tunnel.
