Holmbladsgade
Holmbladsgade is one of the most lively streets in the Amagerbro district of Copenhagen, Denmark, connecting Amagerbrogade to Strandlodsvej on the east coast of Amager. The surrounding neighbourhood is variously referred to as Holmbladsgadekvarteret (literally "The Holmbladsgade neighbourhood"), Amagerbro or Sundby North. History The street was originally known as Køhlertsvej (''Køhlerts Road'') and was access road to Køhlert's textile manufactury which had been founded in about 1770. Christianshavn Iron Foundry and Machine Factory built a large industrial complex at the road in the 1980s. The street received its current name in 1897 after Lauritz Peter Holmblad, a local industrialist and philanthropist, who had his home in the street until his death in 1890. Nathanael's Church was inaugurated in 1899 and over the next decades many apartment buildings sprung up along the street, which became part of a dense working-class neighbourhood. Holmbladsgade Cultural Centre
Kvarterhuset, located just off Holmbladsgade, is a culture house run by Copenhagen Municipality in the Amager district of Copenhagen, Denmark. The building is a former warehouse which was adapted and expanded for its current use by Dorte Mandrup prior to its opening in 2001. It contains the local Sundby Library as well as other facilities for the local community. History The warehouse was built for Lauritz Peter Holmblad in association with his oil mill which is still located next to the building. Holmblad had previously owned a stud farm on the site (Jemtelandsgadewas 1). The warehouse was designed by Georg Ebbe Wineken Møller , built by Christian Peter Wienberg and inaugurated on 24 November 1880. The original address of the warehouse was Holmbladsgade 9 but it was changed to Jemtelandsgadewas 3 when Jemtelandsgadewas and Praghs Boulevard was established in about 1916. Lauritz Peter Holmblad
Lauritz Peter Holmblad (8 July 1815 – 16 November 1890), often referred to as L. P. Holmblad, was a Danish industrialist and philanthropist. His company, which was simply known as L. P. Holmblad, had activities in dyes, soap, glue and plating cards. Holmblad was also part of the circle around Carl Frederik Tietgen, co-founding several of his companies. Holmblad is associated with Amager, Copenhagen, where Holmbladsgade is named after him. Family background L. P. Holmblad was born into a family of industrialists on 8 July 1815. His great-grandfather, Jacob Holmblad, a Swedish dyer who emigrated to Denmark in about 1766, introduced new production methods at the Royal Textile Factory where he used ''Rubia'' plants to produce the red dye for the Royal Life Guards' gala uniforms. Nathanael's Church
Nathanael's Church (Danish: Nathanaels Kirke) is a Church of Denmark parish church in Holmbladsgade in Amager, Copenhagen, Denmark. History Nathanael's Parish was disjoined from Sundby Parish in 1899 as a consequence of the rapid growth of the population in the surrounding working-class neighborhood. The church was built at the initiative of the Association for the Construction of Small Churches in Copenhagen, which had been founded by three young women in 1885. As was the case with the other churches built by the association, it was handed over to the Copenhagen Church Foundation on its completion, which then took care of its operation. The foundation stone for the new church had already been set on 14 June and it was consecrated on 19 March 1899. Prismen (literally "The Crystal") is a multifunctional sports and cultural venue in Holmbladsgade on Amager in Copenhagen, Denmark. Dorte Mandrup-Poulsen (born 28 July 1961) is a Danish architect. Founder and Creative Director of the architectural practice Dorte Mandrup Arkitekter A/S that has approximately 60 employees. The term sense of place has been used in many different ways. It is a multidimensional, complex construct used to characterize the relationship between people and spatial settings. It is a characteristic that some geographic places have and some do not, while to others it is a feeling or perception held by people (not by the place itself). Amager Strandpark
Amager Strandpark (Amager Beach Park) is a seaside public park in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is located on the island of Amager and includes an artificial island and offers a total of of beaches. From the beach, the Middelgrunden wind farm can be seen on the horizon. The park was founded in 1934 and in 2005 a artificial island was added. The island is separated from the original beach by a lagoon which is crossed by three bridges. The beach has two sections. The northern section has a natural beach environment with winding paths, broad sandy beaches and low dunes. The southern section offers a so-called ''city beach'' with a broad promenade and areas for ball play or picnicking. There is also a small marina and parking facilities at the southern end. Christiansborg Palace
Christiansborg Palace ( da, Christiansborg Slot; ) is a palace and government building on the islet of Slotsholmen in central Copenhagen, Denmark. It is the seat of the Danish Parliament ('), the Danish Prime Minister's Office, and the Supreme Court of Denmark. Thorvald Jørgensen
Thorvald Jørgensen (27 June 1867 - 15 May 1946) was a Danish architect, most known for his design of Christiansborg Palace, the seat of the Danish Parliament, after it had been destroyed in a fire. He has also designed a number of churches in Copenhagen. He was Royal Building Inspector from 1911 to 1938. Early life and education Thorval Jørgen was born in Norsminde outside Aarhus, Denmark. He completed a carpenter's apprenticeship in Aarhus in 1885 and then moved to Copenhagen where he was admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts the same year, where he was taught by Hans Jørgen Holm, Martin Nyrop, Ferdinand Meldahl and Albert Jensen. He graduated in 1889, won the Academy's large gold medal in 1893 for ''A church with rectory'', and then worked for Hans Jørgen Holm on the ''Overformynderiet'' institution building in Copenhagen from 1892 to 1893.
