Oleksandr Sergiyovich Pyatnytsya ( uk, Олександр Сергійович П'ятниця; born 14 July 1985 in Dnipropetrovsk) is a male javelin thrower from Ukraine. His personal best is 86.12 metres, achieved in May 2012 in Kiev, which was a new national record. Career He won the bronze medal at the 2007 European Athletics U23 Championships, 2007 European U23 Championships and finished fifth at the 2009 IAAF World Athletics Final, 2009 World Athletics Final. He also competed at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics, 2009 and 2011 World Championships in Athletics, 2011 World Championships without reaching the final. He initially was awarded the silver medal in the javelin throw at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2012 London Olympics with a throw of 84.51m. In 2016 a reanalysis of samples from the 2012 Olympics resulted in a positive test for the anabolic steroid turinabol. Dnipro, previously called Dnipropetrovsk from 1926 until May 2016, is Ukraine's fourth-largest city, with about one million inhabitants. 2012 European Athletics Championships
The 2012 European Athletics Championships were held in Helsinki, Finland between 27 June and 1 July 2012. This edition marks the beginning of a new two-year cycle of the European Athletics Championships which were previously held every four years. The decision to grant the games for Helsinki was made by the European Athletics Congress on 9 November 2009. Another city that showed interest in hosting the event was Nuremberg, Germany, however Helsinki was in pole position during the whole process. This was the third time that the city had hosted the event, 1971 and 1994 being the other occasions. 2011 World Championships In Athletics – Men's Javelin Throw
The Men's Javelin throw event at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Daegu Stadium on September 1 & 3. Preliminary leader Guillermo Martínez made his best throw in the first round, followed shortly by Matthias de Zordo's 86.27 winner. Meanwhile favorite world leader Andreas Thorkildsen languished in as low as eighth place, barely the last qualifier for his remaining three throws. All of the competitors had previously thrown far enough to displace Thorkildsen in the preliminary round. On his fourth throw he finally put one good throw together to leapfrog into the silver medal position. de Zordo was ranked fourth and Martínez had only been ranked twelfth on the annual list prior to the competition.
