Old Man Fiddle
Finland was represented by Pihasoittajat, with the song "Old Man Fiddle", at the 1975 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 22 March in Stockholm. Before Eurovision The Finnish national selection consisted of four semi finals and a final. It was the first year the Finnish selection shows were broadcast in colour. Semi finals Four songs were performed in each semi-final and a professional jury chose two songs from each semi final to qualify for the final. After the semi-finals, a wildcard was also chosen for the final. First semi final Second semi final Third semi final Fourth semi final Final The final took place on February 8 at the YLE TV Studios in Helsinki. It was hosted by Apeli Halinen. The winner was chosen by regional juries. The winning song "Viulu-ukko" was performed in Finnish in the national selection shows but it was translated into English for the international Song Contest as "Old Man Fiddle". Pihasoittajat
Pihasoittajat (1969 to 1975) were a folk music band with modern popular music influences. In 1975 they represented Finland in the Eurovision song contest, placing 7th in a field of 19. Members of the band for the contest were Arja Karlsson, Hannu Karlsson, Seppo Sillanpää, Harry Lindahl, Kim Kuusi and Henrik Bergendahl. Pihasoittajat reformed after a 20-year break in 1995. After several concerts the second revival for the band ended with Hannu Karlsson's death in December 2000. In 2009, Pihasoittajat reformed again featuring all the remaining original band members (including Kyösti Pärssinen who did not appear in the Eurovision song contest), but excluding Seppo Sillanpää who had formed his own group with his daughters. Jukka Kuoppamäki (b. 1 September 1942, Helsinki) is a Finnish singer, songwriter and priest for The Christian Community in Germany. He visits his summer house in Finland every year. Rauno Väinämö Lehtinen (7 April 1932 in Tampere – 1 May 2006 in Helsinki) was a Finnish conductor and composer. He composed the 1960s hit '' Letkis'' which was based on a folk-dance. Tapani Kansa
Aarne Tapani Kansa (born 9 March 1949 in Hamina, Finland) is a Finnish singer. Career Tapani Kansa made his first record deal in 1967 and had a breakthrough the next year, with his version of the hit song ''Delilah'', translated into Finnish. Tapani Kansa had established a career in singing at a very young age. He had started studying singing in the Kotka music academy in the middle 1960s. His colourful performance style brought him much work on television. His early hit songs include ''Kuljen taas kotiinpäin'' ("I am walking home again"), ''Eloise'' and ''Käymme yhdessä ain'' ("We will always go together"). Henrik Otto Donner
Henrik Otto Donner (16 November 1939 – 26 June 2013) was a Finnish composer, musician and all-round music personality. His musical styles varied from pop and rock music to jazz, electronic music and contemporary classical music. Donner's personal instrument was trumpet. He was a member of the famous Finland Swedish Donner family. Donner was one of the pioneers of Finnish avant-garde and experimental music as well as an important figure in Finnish left-wing "song movement" of the 1960s and 1970s. He studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and later in Vienna as a student of György Ligeti. In 1966 Donner was one of the founders of record label Love Records which was a pioneering label in Finnish rock music. Agit-prop is a Finnish communist singer group, whose career began in the 1970s and after a break, have now started touring again. The band was a part of the minority wing in Communist Party of Finland and most of their songs were used to get their cause through. Kirka
Kirill "Kirka" Babitzin (22 September 1950 – 31 January 2007) was one of the most commercially successful Finnish musicians. His career spanned from the late 1960s until his death in 2007. Previously associated with Ilkka Lipsanen's The Islanders band, Kirka went on to record a wide array of rock and pop music. Some of his most famous songs include Hetki Lyö (Beat the Clock), Leijat (Kites) and Varrella virran (Down by the River).
