Namibia National Inline Hockey Team
The Namibia national inline hockey team is the national men's inline hockey team of Namibia. The sport of inline hockey was introduced to Namibia in 1995, and the Namibia Ice and InLine Hockey Association (NIIHA) was organized to promote inline hockey, with the potential of competition in ice hockey. Although Namibia has not yet been represented in ice hockey competition, the NIIHA has, since 2005, sponsored national teams to represent Namibia internationally in inline hockey. The national team participated in the 2005 tournament in Kuopio, Finland, where it was awarded the Fair Play Trophy, the 2006 tournament in Budapest, Hungary, and the 2007 tournament in Passau, Germany. In 2008, two 18 and under teams played in the FIRS Junior world championship, and the FIRS Ladies World championship, and a 14-years old and under team participated in AAU competition in the United States in Philadelphia. Inline Hockey
Roller inline hockey, or inline hockey is a variant of hockey played on a hard, smooth surface, with players using inline skates to move and ice hockey sticks to shoot a hard, plastic puck into their opponent's goal to score points. The sport is a very fast-paced and free-flowing game and is considered a contact sport, but body checking is prohibited. There are five players including the goalkeeper from each team on the rink at a time, while teams normally consist of 16 players. There are professional leagues, one of which is the National Roller Hockey League (NRHL). While it is not a contact sport, there are exceptions, i.e. the NRHL involves fighting. Unlike ice hockey, there are no blue lines or defensive zones in roller hockey. This means that, according to most rule codes, there are no offsides or icings that can occur during game play. IIHF World Ranking
The IIHF World Ranking is a ranking of the performance of the national ice hockey teams of member countries of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). It is based on a formula giving points for each team's placings at IIHF-sanctioned tournaments over the previous four years. The ranking is used to determine seedings and qualification requirements for future IIHF tournaments. The current leader in rankings is Finland in men's play and Canada in women's play. Ice Hockey In Africa
There are a number of indoor ice rinks in African countries that are used for ice hockey. Enthusiasts have formed national teams in several countries and an inaugural African Nations Cup of Ice Hockey was planned for 2009. The first African Nations Cup of Ice Hockey was planned for South Africa between 19–26 September 2009. The matches of the championship were to be played at the ice rink of "Festival Shopping Centre" in Kempton Park. The competing countries were to be South Africa, Morocco and Algeria. However, the tournament was postponed due to lack of response from the invited countries and never played. In 2014, the Egyptian players of Anubis Ice Hockey Team, Egypt's first ice hockey team started to initiate with the Royal Moroccan Ice Hockey Federation the first African Cup.
