Ice Hockey In Africa
There are a number of indoor ice rinks in African countries that are used for ice hockey. Enthusiasts have formed national teams in several countries and an inaugural African Nations Cup of Ice Hockey was planned for 2009. The first African Nations Cup of Ice Hockey was planned for South Africa between 19–26 September 2009. The matches of the championship were to be played at the ice rink of "Festival Shopping Centre" in Kempton Park. The competing countries were to be South Africa, Morocco and Algeria. However, the tournament was postponed due to lack of response from the invited countries and never played. In 2014, the Egyptian players of Anubis Ice Hockey Team, Egypt's first ice hockey team started to initiate with the Royal Moroccan Ice Hockey Federation the first African Cup. 1961 World Ice Hockey Championships
The 1961 Ice Hockey World Championships was the 28th edition of the Ice Hockey World Championships. The tournament was held in Geneva and Lausanne, Switzerland from 1 to 12 March 1961. The games were played outdoors on a frozen pool. A glare made it hard for players to see well, however photographers were able to get aerial pictures from the diving board. Canada, represented by the Trail Smoke Eaters, won their nineteenth international title. It would be 33 years before Canada won another World Championship. By beating out the Soviets for the Silver, the Czechoslovaks won their tenth European title. The final day was marred by political controversy when Willi Daume, president of West Germany hockey, forbade his team to take the ice against East Germany to avoid the possibility of honouring the East German's new flag. Nairobi ( ) is the capital and largest city of Kenya. The Solar Ice Rink is an ice rink located in Nairobi, Kenya. The rink is located in the Panari Sky Centre, a large retail, leisure and hotel accommodation complex. The Tunisian Ice Hockey Association (ATHG) (french: Association Tunisienne de Hockey sur Glace) is the governing body of ice hockey in Tunisia. History The Tunisian Ice Hockey Association was founded in 2009, and was later accepted into the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) on 22 September 2021. Tunisia was the fourth African nation to join the IIHF after South Africa, Morocco and Algeria. Yasmine Hammamet
Hammamet ( ar, حمامات ', literally " Baths") is a town in Tunisia. Thanks to its beaches, it is a popular destination for swimming and water sports and is one of the primary tourist destinations in Tunisia. Hockey Algeria
Hockey Algeria is the public name of the authority which governs both ice hockey, inline hockey and ball hockey in Algeria. Hockey Algeria was founded in 2008 by Karim Kerbouche, Harond Litim and Nassim Boulakdem and was later accepted into the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) on 26 September 2019. The goal was to unite hockey players of Algerian origin from around the world, and create an Algerian national team. Hockey Algeria is an associate member of the IIHF and therefore has no right to vote in the General Assembly. The current president of Hockey Algeria is Karim Kerbouche.
