Nordic Opening
The Nordic Opening is a cross-country skiing event held annually since the 2010–11 season in Ruka, Finland or Lillehammer, Norway. The Nordic Opening is a Stage World Cup event in the FIS Cross-Country World Cup, and are held as the first or second World Cup race weekend of the season. The inaugural Nordic Opening was held in 2010 and was originally named Ruka Triple. The editions of the mini-tour hosted in Lillehammer is also known as Lillehammer Triple. Each Nordic Opening consists of three stages; a sprint, an individual race and a pursuit. As of 2019, the prize money for the event amount to 240,000 Swiss francs, shared out on both men and women. Men's and women's events are held together on the same days, with the only difference being the distance skied. The first stages was arranged on 26 November 2010 and were won by Marit Bjørgen (ladies) and John Kristian Dahl (men). Lillehammer
Lillehammer () is a municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Gudbrandsdal. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Lillehammer. The 2012 Nordic Opening was the 3rd edition of the annual cross-country skiing event. The three-day event was the second competition round of the 2012–13 FIS Cross-Country World Cup, after Gällivare, Sweden. World Cup points distribution The winners of the overall standings were awarded 200 World Cup points and the winners of each of the three stages were awarded 50 World Cup points. Eldar Rønning
Eldar Rønning (born 11 June 1982 in Levanger) is a Norwegian former cross-country skier. He skis with the Skogn IL club, in Nord-Trøndelag. Career In 2004/05, he achieved three podium finishes in World Cup Sprint events, including a win at Reit im Winkl. He finished the season in 10th, 235 points behind overall winner Axel Teichmann. He was 62nd in the distance standings, 520 points behind Teichmann, and came second in the sprint discipline, 237 points behind fellow countryman Tor Arne Hetland. He also came second in the sprint discipline at the Norwegian national championships. Rønning shared the 2005/06 season between the World Cup and the Scandinavian Cup, competing almost exclusively in sprints. He only competed in one World Cup race that was not either a sprint or a pursuit, it was a 15 km classic style race in Davos, Rønning finished 30th, 1:25.9 behind winner Jens Arne Svartedal. Petter Northug
Petter Northug Jr. (born 6 January 1986) is a Norwegian former cross-country skier and double Olympic champion. He won a total of 13 World Championship and two Winter Olympic gold medals with 20 medals overall (two gold, one silver and one bronze at the Olympics, 13 gold and three silver at the World Ski Championships), and 18 individual FIS Cross-Country World Cup wins with 13 podium places. He is also the record holder for most stage wins (13) in Tour de Ski. By winning his ninth gold medal in the Nordic World Ski Championships in 4 × 10 km relay in Val di Fiemme 2013 he leveled the achievement of Bjørn Dæhlie who had been the most successful World Champion male skier up to that point. Daniel Rickardsson
Jan Olof Daniel Rickardsson (born 15 March 1982) is a Swedish retired cross-country skier who started competing in 2002. Athletic career His best World Cup finish in 2008 was second in two in 4 × 10 km relay events. Rickardsson also competed at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec, finishing sixth in the 4 ×10 km relay, 20th in the 15 km, and 31st in the 50 km events. Dario Cologna
Dario Cologna (born 11 March 1986) is a Swiss cross-country skier. He has four overall World Cup victories, four Olympic gold medals, one World Championships gold medal and four Tour de Ski victories in his career. On 3 November 2021, he announced his retirement from cross-country skiing following the 2021–2022 season. Early life Cologna is a native Rumantsch speaker. He was born in Santa Maria Val Müstair, in the Lower Engadine, to Italian parents. His father Remo is from Val di Non in Trentino, while his mother Christine is from Stelvio/Stilfs in South Tyrol. The 2019 Nordic Opening or the seventh Ruka Triple is the 10th edition of the Nordic Opening, an annual cross-country skiing mini-tour event. The three-day event will be the first competition round of the 2019–20 FIS Cross-Country World Cup. Overall leadership The results in the overall standings were calculated by adding each skier's finishing times on each stage. On the sprint stage, the winners were awarded 30 bonus seconds, no bonus seconds were awarded on stages two and three. The skier with the lowest cumulative time would be the overall winner of the Nordic Opening. A total of CHF 240,000, both genders included, was awarded in cash prizes in the race. The overall winners of the Nordic Opening received CHF 22,500, with the second and third placed skiers getting CHF 17,500 and CHF 11,000 respectively. All finishers in the top 20 were awarded money.
