2012 Nordic Opening
The 2012 Nordic Opening was the 3rd edition of the annual cross-country skiing event. The three-day event was the second competition round of the 2012–13 FIS Cross-Country World Cup, after Gällivare, Sweden. World Cup points distribution The winners of the overall standings were awarded 200 World Cup points and the winners of each of the three stages were awarded 50 World Cup points. A total of 350 points was possible to achieve if one athlete won all three stages and the overall standings. Rukatunturi
Rukatunturi ( fi, Ruka) is a high fell and a ski resort in Kuusamo, Finland. Apart from downhill skiing, there are over 500 km of cross-country skiing tracks. Also snowmobiles can be rented to enjoy some of the area's 600 km of snowmobile routes (of which 100 km are safari organizers' private routes). Ruka is also the southern end of the Karhunkierros hiking trail. The total of trails in Ruka and Kuusamo area is: 160 km of hiking trails, 605 km of biking routes, 350 km of classified paddling routes (including class 1–4 whitewater paddling) and 100 km of boating routes. In winter 1954, the first slope, now called "Eturinne" ("Front Slope"), was opened. The current number of slopes is 29, operated with 20 ski lifts (one high-speed detachable chair with bubble). Martin Johnsrud Sundby
Martin Johnsrud Sundby (born 26 September 1984) is a former Norwegian cross-country skier who competed between 2003 and 2021. He is a two time Olympic champion at the 2018 Winter Olympics in the team sprint and relay and was also a silver and bronze medalist in the 30 km skiathlon in 2014 and 2018. Sundby is a 4-time world champion, winning his sole individual gold medal at the 15 km at the 2019 Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld. In 2014, he became the first Norwegian to win the Tour de Ski, a feat he repeated in 2016. He also won the overall world cup in 2014, 2016 and 2017. Career Sundby got his international breakthrough when he won his first individual victory on 30 November 2008 in Kuusamo, Finland. Eirik Brandsdal (born November 11, 1986) is a Norwegian former cross-country skier who began competing in 2005. His five World Cup victories came in sprint events in Otepää on 23 January 2011, in Milan on 14 January 2012, in Drammen on 7 March 2012, in Kuusamo on 29 November 2014 and in Drammen Drammen () is a city and municipality in Viken, Norway. Nikita Kryukov
Nikita Valeryevich Kryukov (russian: Никита Валерьевич Крюков; born 30 May 1985) is a Russian former cross-country skier who competed internationally between 2006 and 2018. He was a sprint specialist who won an Olympic gold medal, three World Championship gold medals, six World cup gold medals (three stage races, three individual World Cups), all in the sprint events. He was arguably the fastest skier ever when it came to double-poling on the flat in sprints. He generally favoured classic skiing and classic sprints over freestyle, but as he showed in winning the team sprint in the 2013 World Championship, in Val di Fiemme, he was also very strong in the freestyle sprint. Nicole Fessel (born 19 May 1983) is a German former cross-country skier who competed between 2000 and 2018. Her best World Cup finish was second twice (team sprint: 2009, 4 × 5 km relay: March 2010). (born November 5, 1980) is a Japanese cross-country skier who has competed since 1998. Her best World Cup finish was third in the 30 km event in Norway in 2009. Kristin Størmer Steira (born 30 April 1981) is a retired Norwegian cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skier. She competed from 2002 to 2015, and won six individual FIS Cross-Country World Cup, World Cup victories and five individual medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships and Winter Olympic Games. She also won four gold medals with the Norway relay team. In Norwegian media, Steira was dubbed "the eternal fourth" due to her many finishes in fourth place. Vibeke Westbye Skofterud (20 April 1980 – 29 July 2018) was a Norwegian cross-country skier. She won gold in the 4 × 5 km relay at Vancouver in 2010. Her best individual finish at the Winter Olympics was eighth in the 30 km event at Salt Lake City in 2002. Skofterud won a complete set of 4 × 5 km relay medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships (gold: 2005, gold: 2011, silver: 2003, bronze: 2007) and earned her best individual finish of 13th in the 5 km + 5 km double pursuit in 2003. Krista Pärmäkoski (née Lähteenmäki; born 12 December 1990) is a Finnish cross-country skier who has been competing since 2007. Among other career achievements, she is a five-time Olympic medalist. Career At the 2010 Winter Olympics, Pärmäkoski finished 26th in the 30 km and 53rd in the 10 km event. At the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec, she finished 37th in the 10 km event. Therese Johaug
Therese Johaug (born 25 June 1988) is a Norwegian cross-country skier from the village of Dalsbygda in Os municipality who has competed for the clubs Tynset IF and IL Nansen. In World Ski Championships she has won ten individual gold medals along with four gold medals in relays and she is a four-time Olympic gold medallist. In October 2016, Johaug tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug clostebol. She blamed the Norwegian team medic Fredrik S. Bendiksen but was nonetheless suspended for a period of 18 months. She returned to the World Cup in 2019 and has continued to dominate women's distance competitions in the following seasons.
