2016 Nordic Opening
The 2016 Nordic Opening or the second Lillehammer Triple was the 7th edition of the Nordic Opening, an annual cross-country skiing mini-tour event. The three-day event was the second competition round of the 2016–17 FIS Cross-Country World Cup. World Cup points distribution The winners of the overall standings were awarded 200 World Cup points and the winners of each of the three stages were awarded 50 World Cup points. A total of 350 points was possible to achieve if one athlete won all three stages and the overall standings. Lillehammer
Lillehammer () is a municipality in Innlandet county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Gudbrandsdal. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Lillehammer. Some of the more notable villages in the municipality include Fåberg, Hunderfossen, Jørstadmoen, Vingnes, and Vingrom. Marcus Hellner
Carl Marcus Joakim Hellner (born 25 November 1985) is a Swedish former cross-country skier who competed between 2003 and 2018. He retired at the end of the 2017-18 FIS World Cup season. Athletic career Hellner had a total of seven victories in the junior levels of cross-country skiing up to 30 km from 2003 to 2005. In Gällivare, Sweden, he took his first world cup win on a 15 km event. Hellner won bronze, his first medal, in the 4 × 10 km relay at the 2007 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Sapporo. In the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Hellner won his first Olympic gold medal in the 30 km skiathlon, deciding the race in a sprint at the end. Jessie Diggins
Jessica Diggins (born August 26, 1991) is an American cross-country skier. She and teammate Kikkan Randall won the United States' first ever cross-country skiing gold medal at the Winter Olympics in the team sprint in 2018. At the 2022 Winter Olympics, Diggins won the silver medal in the 30 kilometer freestyle and the bronze medal in the individual sprint, making her the most decorated American cross-country skier of all time. She also won four medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships from 2013 to 2017. In 2021, Diggins clinched the top spot in the women's overall standings for the 2020–21 FIS Cross-Country World Cup, becoming the first American to do so. Stina Nilsson (born 24 June 1993) is a Swedish biathlete and former cross-country skier. She is a five-time Olympic medalist and the 2018 Olympic champion in the individual sprint. In March 2020 she announced that she would switch to competing in biathlon. Iivo Henrik Niskanen (born 12 January 1992) is a Finnish cross-country skier who has competed in the FIS Cross-Country World Cup since 2011. He is a three-time Olympic champion. Career Iivo Niskanen made his individual World Cup debut on 12 March 2011, when he became 69th in a 20 km skiathlon in Lahti, Finland. He had his breakthrough at the international level when he won the 15-kilometre classic race at the 2014 under-23 World Championships in Val di Fiemme on 30 January 2014. Alex Harvey (; born 7 September 1988) is a retired Canadian cross-country skier who competed between 2005 and 2019. Harvey is also a member of the Quebec Provincial Cycling Team. Career In 2008 Harvey finished third both in the (Team sprint: Whistler Olympic Park, and the 50 km: Trondheim). He also competed at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2009 in Liberec, finishing fifth in the 4 x 10 km, 22nd in the 15 km + 15 km double pursuit, 28th in the individual sprint, and 36th in the 15 km events. In the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, Harvey finished fourth in the team sprint with teammate Devon Kershaw. This is the best placing ever for Canadian men in an Olympic cross-country competition.
