Maarmorilik
Maamorilik (old spelling: ''Mârmorilik'' or ''Maarmorilik'', also ''Black Angel Mine'') is a mining site in the Avannaata municipality in northwestern Greenland. Holding resources of zinc, iron, lead, and silver, the mine is long, with its entry level situated above the sea level. Geography The mine is located approximately northeast of Ukkusissat in the Akuliarusikassak massif on the mainland of Greenland, on the southern shore of the Qaumarujuk Fjord, a tributary fjord of Perlerfiup Kangerlua, an inner branch of the Uummannaq Fjord. History The first excavations in Maamorilik took place from 1938, possibly earlier, with operations continuing until 1945, and again from 1973 to 25 July 1990 when the mine was closed. During seventeen years of operation, the mine yield of zinc ore amounted to 12 mln tonnes. Air Greenland A/S (formerly named Grønlandsfly), also known as Greenlandair, is the flag carrier airline of Greenland, owned by the Greenlandic Government. Perlerfiup Kangerlua
Perlerfiup Kangerlua (old spelling: ''Perdlerfiup Kangerdlua'') is a fjord in Avannaata municipality in northwestern Greenland. It is a tributary fjord of the larger Uummannaq Fjord system. Geography The fjord head at approximately is formed by the front of the Perlerfiup Sermia glacier flowing from the Greenland ice sheet ( kl, Sermersuaq). At about one third of its length, the fjord changes direction from westward to northwestward, finally turning sharply to the southwest before confluence with the northeastern part of Uummannaq Fjord at approximately , due west of Ukkusissat. The fjord is bounded from the south by the Ukkusissat Peninsula across its entire length. Avannaata
Avannaata (, da, Det Nordlige, lit=The Northern) is a municipality of Greenland created on 1 January 2018 from the bulk of the former Qaasuitsup municipality. It encompasses an area of 522,700 km2 and has 10,726 inhabitants. Geography In the south, Avannaata is flanked by the Qeqertalik municipality. In the southeast, it is bordered by the Sermersooq municipality, however this border runs north–south ( 45° West meridian) through the center of the Greenland ice sheet ( kl, Sermersuaq), and as such is free of traffic. Thue Christiansen
Thue Christiansen (25 February 1940 – 26 June 2022) was a Greenlandic teacher, visual artist, and politician. Christiansen is best known as the designer of the current flag of Greenland, which was adopted on 21 June 1985. A trained teacher, Christiansen was elected to the Inatsisartut for Siumut in 1979 when Greenland was granted home rule. He was the Naalakkersuisut, Greenlandic Minister of Culture and Education from 1979 until 1983. Christiansen died on 26 June 2022, at his home in Hals, Denmark, Hals, Denmark. He was 82. Uummannaq Heliport
Uummannaq Heliport is a heliport in Uummannaq, a town located on Uummannaq Island in Avannaata municipality in northwestern Greenland. There are no facilities in the heliport. Airlines and destinations Air Greenland operates government contract flights to villages in the Uummannaq Fjord region. These mostly cargo flights are not featured in the timetable, although they can be pre-booked. Departure times for these flights as specified during booking are by definition approximate, with the settlement service optimized on the fly depending on local demand for a given day. Bell 212
The Bell 212 (also known as the ''Twin Two-Twelve'') is a two-blade, medium helicopter that first flew in 1968. Originally manufactured by Bell Helicopter in Fort Worth, Texas, United States, production was moved to Mirabel, Quebec, Canada in 1988, along with all Bell commercial helicopter production after that plant opened in 1986. The 212 was marketed to civilian operators and has up to a 15-seat capacity, with one pilot and fourteen passengers. In cargo-carrying configuration the 212 has an internal capacity of 220 ft3 (6.23 m3). An external load of up to 5,000 lb (2,268 kg) can be carried.
